@jruesmith7 - they are on applicant #5602, reading page number 7 of the application! Just kidding.
I doubt if anyone on CC will have a clue on what the adcomm is doing, but if someone does, I will be happy to know about it as well!
@jruesmith7 And what would that do for your state of mind/emotion? Step back from all this – your life moves on regardless what’s happening in NJ. C’mon. It’ll be OKay. Stop driving yourself nuts!
Good luck
@T26E4 - you are correct. There is absolutely nothing we can gain by knowing what the adcomm is doing right now. Just curious - when you applied to these colleges (I know it was probably long ago), how did you feel / spend the last few days?
@Medscibud – oh, you don’t want to hear my story… it won’t help any of the nervous people here.
I applied to UMich (they had rolling admissions back then) in Sept. Thus I was accepted in October of my senior year! Wow, right? Unless I was going to commit a felony, I was all set.
Thus I only applied to other schools RD that might knock out UM (and its fin aid/merit money). Over the next few months, I got accepts into top engineering schools but they lacked the affordability of UM so the last decisions I was waiting upon were my Ivies. I really didn’t think about my chances – my friends and I weren’t that tied into all the data we can now pore through.
Back then, they mailed letters/packages in mid April. I rec’d my first “fat package” in the mail on Thurs, April 11. It had a fantastic fin aid package to boot. Knowing that one accepted me , settled all the fears. II came home from school and saw it in my mailbox. I opened and rejoiced and immediately called my parents at their respective jobs. The next day, several other fat packages came in – including Yale, my 1st choice. It’s fin aid was even better. Back then, you mailed back a postcard to indicate intent to enroll – I sent off mine including rejects to UMich and some Ivies – it was surreal. From my graduating class (a top urban HS), I went to Yale and 3 went to Penn, a few to NU, and a boatload to UM. I remember a Williams and a Holyoke matriculant too.
Really, my senior year was really relaxed knowing I was a potential UM Wolverine – I killed my classes because I could, not b/c I was worried about my transcript. Had lots of fun and made many memories. HS was a blast for me.
@T26E4 - wow! How I wish we could all roll back to those non-Internet days - though the speed of the email / Internet does help in some ways - it adds to the misery in several other ways!
Do UM and Yale do merit aids now? (OOS)
No ivies had or have merit. My UM Merit package was better than my overall cost to Yale but my family supported my decision to go to Yale.
@T26E4 true true you’re right.
Not really freaking out, but while I was showering I just pictured the committee sitting around the table looking up memes and playing 8-ball pool since they were done already. Guess I’ll never know
Thanks for all your continuous support here!
@gmanhax
You mentioned that your counselor said that you would definitely get past the academic test and it’d come down to ECs, recs, etc. I was wondering if your counselor was given any indication of the percent of students that get over that initial academic/standardized tests hurdle (90% 95%?)
It may give a more accurate look at the chances of academically qualified students even though in the end it’s a crapshoot.
@zaxm12 No, I didn’t ask her for any statistics. I try to refrain from asking her questions about admissions in general, for the following reasons:
a) She’s been gone for over 5 years, so she probably does not have access to the data anymore, and even the data she does have access to is outdated.
b) We have a great relationship, and I would hate to be perceived as that annoying kid who is always asking questions about college. Basically, it is an unwritten rule in my school’s guidance office that you don’t ask super specific questions about the admissions process, and I don’t want to breach that.
c) Does it really even matter? If you have good stats, you’ve made it past the screening. Congrats. All we can do is wait. No amount of analysis will change our decisions.
@gmanhax yeah you’re right. I keep telling myself to just forget Pton until the decision comes out but easier said than done.
@zaxm12 No worries, I feel ya. Can’t seem to get Pton off my mind! Out of curiosity, what did you put as your favorite word?
@gmanhax I put the word “epitome” how about you?
I put “boondoggle.”
@supercilious I got a recommendation letter from the eco-club coordinator in my school and I think my coordinator would have written a good recommendation. Also, along with my application, after asking the Admissions office, I sent in a project I had worked on for a intl. competition (although we didn’t win, we were only shortlisted in the region) and submitted my school’s eco-club report (mentioning my contributions and quantifying the work I did over four years). Apart from that, I explained the work I did in the Additional Information section, and my motive to pursue engineering arose (genuinely) from a desire to work for the betterment of nature.
I think I made a good application revolving around that, and my credentials, according to the 2020 class profile, is at Princeton’s 75th percentile or better. Now, I can only wonder how they would have perceived my application as a whole. :((
@zaxm12 I put ‘epitome’ too! I just love the way it sounds.
Just thought I’d repost because of time sensitivity - does anyone have an answer to my question here? http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/princeton-university/1942584-question-about-requests-for-internal-unofficial-grades-p1.html?new=1 Thanks in advance!
I think it is a good sign that indicates they are interested to know more about you. As you said, it might be due to you skip one year of high school. How about your two years high school grades? Your GPA?
Called the Admissions office today.
The person who answered the call said that if any applicant has a set of grades from their current year, s/he should send them to Princeton (yes, even though it’s late in the early admissions period, she said that we should send them).
Also, I enquired regarding the decisions date, and she told me the release date is around two weeks from now, and that we’ll get an email from the Office a week before decisions.
Also, I called the FA Office today and even though I had sent them what they asked to send there was still a document remaining… so I would advise you all to check with them regarding FA documents. (Funnily enough, I just stated my last name to them, and somehow they correctly guessed my first name… pretty weird huh :-SS )
@gmanhax favorite word: Endgame!
@derpro so not before Monday 12/19? Or do you think decisions will come out at the end of next week?
