Princeton, CMU

Hello everyone. My dream schools are CMU and Princeton. I plan on majoring in Computer Science and I want to attend a top CS school that also offers a well rounded education. I am from the second poorest county in Kentucky and my family makes about $26,000. I am currently a senior and will be attending college in the fall of 2014. Thank you!

Work/Volunteer:
I created and manage the website and software for my parent's business.
I help clean the cabins and work around the houses.
I tutor middle school students in any subject after school two days a week.
~30 hours of volunteer work

Senior schedule:
ENG 101+102, PHI 110+130, BIO 110+111, MAT 107+108, AP Computer Science, AP Calculus AB, AP Physics, Spanish II

Other:
I am a Kentucky Governor's Scholar. This is widely considered the most prestigious program in Kentucky. If you're accepted, you spend 5 weeks on a college campus with 355 other scholars and attend classes and seminars.

Also, I'm thinking of applying to MIT, Yale, Princeton, and Stanford through QuestBridge. Would I have a higher chance of getting into Princeton through this or RD? Plus, what are other top CS schools that are also known for humanities?

QuestBridge could definitely help you. I would re-take SATII Chem. You seem like very good applicant with a clear passion in music. However, if you apply to Princeton, Yale, Stanford, etc. it’s very hard to evaluate someone’s chances - it’s a crapshoot as many people refer to it.

You have very respectable scores and excellent grades. I’m not sure right now what schools offer a good mix of strong CS programs and humanities, I’ll try to find out.

All those schools are reaches for you (except CMU is a low reach / high match). Try to raise your ACT score a little; that could give you an edge. Otherwise, you’re a very very strong applicant :)

Chance back? :stuck_out_tongue:

CMU: high match/low reach
Ivies/MIT/Stanford: reach

You have a really good chance at those schools.
