<p>A former Princeton offensive lineman is about to square off against a former Princeton point guard. For the winner, there's a trip to the ... World Series?</p>
<p>Mark Shapiro '89, who played offensive tackle and center for the Tigers, is currently Executive Vice President/General Manager of the Cleveland Indians, who will take on the Boston Red Sox in the American League Championship Series beginning Friday night in Boston. Larry Lucchino '67, a basketball player under the late Butch van Breda Kolff at Princeton during its glory days of the mid-'60s, is the President and CEO of the Red Sox.</p>
<p>While Shapiro and Lucchino are the two highest-profile Princetonians in the ALCS, they are not alone. Some of the others even had baseball experience while Tigers.</p>
<p>Mike Hazen '98, a two-time first-team All-Ivy League centerfielder and one of the top power hitters in school history, is the Red Sox Director of Player Development. Hazen actually started his front office career with the Indians before moving to the Red Sox. Jonathan Gilula '98, who was not a baseball player at Princeton, is also with the Red Sox, as Vice President for Business Operations.</p>
<p>Mike Chernoff '03, an infielder who captained the 2003 team to the Ivy League championship, is with the Indians as Assistant Director of Baseball Operations.</p>
<p>The Indians eliminated the New York Yankees in the first round. The Yankee roster included Princeton alum Ross Ohlendorf, a righthanded relief pitcher. </p>
