Princeton :D

Ok.. so you can tell I'm all buzzed about Princeton... but for people like me.. princeton's the best.

People like me: looking for things besides education at college and yet education cannot be less than top-notch; not quite decided on your major (i'm debating b/w engineering and premed.. I might do both.. it's quite feasible at Princeton); values the reputation of the college; not too rural and not too urban; MOST IMPORTANTLY, people who are undecided.

I've never known which school I wanted to apply to...before I looked into Princeton... then I pretty much just knew.. the people who go there just love the school so much that princeton has the most alumni contribution. I strongly stuggest you visit the ivy league-princeton forum in college discussions too.

Good things I've heard about princeton:
Lots of grants that replace loans
Reputation
Chem Engineering
Math
Econ
Political Science
Premed(although there is no program, you can take the necessary courses, and there's a strong advisory committee for it)
Not cutthroat
Eating clubs(conflicting opinions on this but I like it :))
School atmosphere
etc...(I proly forgot so many things...yes.. it's tough to be an asian eskimo...)

As you can tell.. the last category "school atmosphere" really got me... although I haven't visited there, from the people on this forum, I can tell I'll love it. So yea... I'm obviously biased.. but hey, I'm not comparing princeton to other schools.. just look into princeton as one of your choices. You won't regret it!

Mnya! My 100th post!

This is an article about Princeton from a former high school classmate:

<a href="http://www.luskinreport.com/2003_05_25_lettersArchive.asp%5B/url%5D">http://www.luskinreport.com/2003_05_25_lettersArchive.asp</a></p>

On the otherhand, I know the former studentbody president at Princeton and my next door neighbor in grad school is from Princeton and they both enjoyed it there.

Hmmmm. As a fellow Princeton enthusiast, I have several comments about that article.

First of all, the drinking. As a non-drinker, alcohol is a major concern of mine. But to actually try to blame the administration for cracking down on drinking... that's absurd! If underclassmen are seriously that irresponsible to drink themselves unconscious alone in their dorm rooms, then quite frankly, i don't see how they are mature enough to be at college in the first place. The same goes for drugs. It sounds like the author of the article is actually trying to blame the administration for the decrease in drug prices. Well, they don't exactly have control over that, and once again, if kids are that irresponsible to buy drugs, then they really shouldn't be there. Anyway, you're going to have druggies on any campus you go to.

Second of all, the undergrad focus. It sounds like the author of the article really wishes he had gone to a small LAC like Swarthmore where classes have about 5 kids in them. The fact is, Princeton is a university, and yes, professors will be busy. However, compared to other universities, the professors show a remarkable amount of attention toward the undergrads, especially given the tiny size of princeton's grad schools.

I was a little sad to hear about the econ department, though. I had heard that it was very crowded, and i wouldn't doubt that econ majors might not get the same personal attention as history majors. However, know that if you go to Princeton for econ, your education will be second to none since Princeton is considered one of the best, if not the best, places for econ in the country.

With all that said, every single Princeton alumnus i have met... and i have met quite a few... absolutely loved their experience there. Each one was so excited that i was interested in going there that they have actually called me and asked if i want help with my application or if i have any questions about pton, then they begin to reminisce about their experience there, and the P-rade, etc. I really think that whoever wrote this article simply hadn't chosen the right college for himself, and he probably would have been better off at a small LAC.

those comments about the econ department kind of freaked me out too... can anyone confirm what that article said about it?
