Princeton Early Action Class of 2024

Anyone else EAing to Princeton this year? Super stressed lol but hey good luck to all

I am doing Princeton SCEA. I intend to major in mathematics and minor in CS.
Stats:
Race: Asian
Gender: Male
SAT: 1590
SAT II: Math 2 800, Physics 800, Biology 800
AP: Computer Science A, World History, Calculus BC, Physics I, Physics 2, Physics C Mechanics, Physics C Electricity and Magnetism (self studied for those two), English Lang/Comp, US History, Biology. Taking Chemistry, English Lit and Comp, Macro econ and Government this year.
Rank: Top 7.5% at very competitive high school.
GPA: 3.87 UW/4.45 W
EC:
Math:

  • USAMO Qualifier 2019
  • Got a 13 on AIME 2019
  • Top 20 at PUMaC (Princeton University Math Competition) 2017 and HMMT (Harvard-MIT Math Tournament) 2019.
  • Three-time AIME qualifier
  • Co-founded a successful nonprofit organization dedicated to furthering math education in Houston (hoping sometime later this year/ next year to expand to the country via an online platform). Used this to hold book drives and fundraisers for the nearby school district (because they sadly don’t have money to pay for any textbooks)
  • Have played badminton and ultimate frisbee for the past four-five years, won some minor awards in both
  • Magic: My second passion. Performed at several events (from professional ones, to ones in retirement homes, to just performing at cafes for people who wanted to see).
  • Play the violin
  • Officer of two clubs at my school this year: MNHS and Badminton club. Used to be an officer for another club but the sponsor left and no one else was willing to sponsor it.
  • Worked/researched myelomic cancer (myeloma) at a local (very famous) hospital.
  • did a bioinformatics project last year with a mentor at another local hospital(again a very prestigious one)

Not sure if I forgot anything?
I have always loved everything about Princeton, from the undergraduate focus to the alleged high rigor level (high level of rigor makes me perform better than low level of rigor). I love the architecture, the weather, the small, quiet, intimate setting. Really hope I get in. I know it’s a long shot, but hopefully I get lucky.

My daughter is P’23 and did SCEA. Her stats (higher GPA, same SAT) very similar to yours. She also started a nonprofit at her school and participated in various clubs and athletics. She was deferred but got in off the wait-list. She believes if she would have just done ED she would have gotten in during the initial round. The Princeton grant is very generous. If we had know about the endowment she would have applied ED and not had the stress of the wait-list. The elite schools want to know you want them the most. SCEA puts you at a disadvantage of not showing you want the school the most and also does not allow you to apply to any other private schools.

Best of Luck

I am. I am also very stressed; nonetheless I wish good luck to everyone. Unfortunately, the majority of us will receive a disappointing result on December 13th (I think?), but good luck nonetheless.

hey keep your head up!! if you’re applying seriously then you probably have the qualifications :))

i really want to but idk if im good enough. my SAT is 1440 superscored. i want to do either political science or economics. u?

Me! Super stressed even about the small ‘favorites’ questions, though I know I should just be truthful  Good luck to you all!!

@yayforapples You have a stellar profile! Great chances of getting in.
Could you share what are you submitting for your graded essay?
Best of luck.

Thanks @mara15 and @maddy09! Since I last posted that message, I have become the president and founder of two more clubs

I am submitting a research paper I wrote for the WHAP summer project. It was a pain to get because I had to sift through thousands of old documents from the last two years and then persuade my teacher to write comments on it (it was one of the only two expository essays I have actually written in high school and the other one was a DBQ, which I prefer not to submit because it was not exactly high quality- difficult to write well in 50 minutes).

yee yee let’s get this bread

@mara15 I’m a little confused. I thought they only offer SCEA and RD. I did not see ED. Did they get rid of ED for this year?

@dinjimh
Princeton has ended ED in 2006, and instituted SCEA in 2011. Currently among the Ivies, besides RD, Harvard uses REA, Princeton and Yale offer SCEA, while Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, and UPenn offer ED.

Hey guys, I am super stressed and still not sure whether to apply EA or RD.
If you guys could share your stats, it would be great.

Hey @maddy09 ! I’m applying EA.
My stats:

  • 4.83 w, not sure about unweighted :(
  • 34 act
  • IB classes junior+senior year, PreIB classes freshman+sophomore; scores range from A- to A+
  • high school is rated pretty poorly :(; located in a mid-size town
  • awaiting to take math 2 and chem subject tests this october

I think that’s pretty much it for scores

hey @ellanella ! can i ask what major you are going for?

@maddy09 here are my stats/scores. i am going to apply for economics. i think SCEA.

  • SAT is 1440
  • IB predicted score 41 = (HL: economics (7), history (7), english literature (6), SL: math (5), environmental science (7), and mandarin (7)

im super stressed right now too because my math grade really isnt high, especially to study economics, a major that really needs math proficiency. that’s why im really doubting myself. how are your stats?

@angiejafari I will be applying to be a Chem major!

Honestly, I really think the 7 in HL Economics makes up for your SL math score, which honestly isn’t bad.

Also, are we required to submit predicted scores to Princeton? You may just decide not to unless they require us to.

Maybe you could take a math subject test to show them you’re proficient in math?

Does anyone know what the favorite recording section is referring to? I don’t know if that means song, podcast, speech, or phone recording? Honestly so confused.

i was also considering a SAT subject test for math but there are no test dates left. the next SAT Subject test date in thailand is after the EA deadline :frowning:

i believe favorite recording is favorite song

I am also applying SCEA!

I am pretty nervous as I have always wanted to go to Princeton for like my entire life. However, I really don’t expect to get in- it’s so insanely competitive, and my GPA is on the lower side for sure(fairly strong upward trend- in 9th and 10th grade my GPA was like a 3.8 because I didn’t study for anything and winged tests just to put myself in pressure because I liked to derive stuff under pressure, but in 11th grade I realized this was a suboptimal approach and my GPA was like a 3.95.) I’m just going to do my best and hope the AO finds something compelling in my application.

@yayforapples Your stats are amazing, honestly, those stats might make up for your slightly lower GPA(Which is still really good, a 3.87 is nothing to be ashamed of).
