Princeton ED app reading period.

Some people seem to believe that they start reading all applications in the first week of DEC, or after the interview reports are in. I am not sure if that is right, but i just don't think that makes too much sense to read around 2000 apps in less then 2 weeks while they have most of november to read it?

Does anyone know of the procedure? is it first come first served in the sense that if your app arrived early, it will be read early? Here is what I THINK: they get the first two readers to read your apps just asap, then the third reader may wait for your interview reports to come in then read it again in the first week of DEC. I just don't think it's possible for them to wait till all interview reports are in, then read the app. I mean organizing the files shouldn't take 3 weeks. They just put the parts you sent into your folder, and officers don't do that. they have secretaries for that...

From what I've heard, they read the apps starting today (right after Thanksgiving) and finish by the end of the week. It's not uncommon for colleges to get through thousands of apps in a week or two. After all, they spend all day reading them, and they finish each one in a matter of minutes.

...or 30. At least that's what the adrep told me. I can't believe they're reading them right now. Gah...

30 what? minutes per each app? that seems like a lot....

30 min 1st read (?)
+
15 min 2nd read
= 45 min per app

45 x the 2000 ED apps (as reported in the Daily Princetonian) = 90,000 minutes spent reading apps

about 1500 hours reading apps... insane... not even counting those that (gulp) go to committee!

here's to a safe passage for all of ours!

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa i'm flipping out

so they just started reading recently? you guys sure about that?

yeah, that is truly frightening. think: the next four years of your life (and probably much more than just that) could have been decided today. all the hooks you've tried to create, all the essays, the speculation could have been put to rest today. scary. CA people, when do you expect our letters?

the apps i think have already start to be read because if u notice not one of the ppl w/ completed apps got a 2nd confirmation yet and my guess is they read those ones/are reading them right now and given the number of people (theres more readers than admissions officers i think) it wouldnt be impossible to read 2000 apps in a week and spend about 45min-hour on each one and then i guess they would do all the committee ones at the end of this week up until like next thursday/friday and mail decisions out so they arrive teh 15th... it seems 'doable' i guess...

How about 1 min 45 sec for reading apps (link taken from penn board)?
(link taken from penn board)

No, that's the "discussing apps" part...the committee spends less time per app than the individual reader does (fortunately).

well i called today to ask if they recieved my mid-semester grades which were faxed - first she said "when did you send them? im not sure it really matters" and then i said, well could you check and she said "sorry, your application is out for review"

hahahah i thought i got in :( and then she goes and bursts my bubble

my speculation:

I think the regional reps read them in November, the other person reads them after thanksgiving, and they go to a committee in december.

i think mine is in committee - she said something along these lines "sorry but a portion of the apps are still out for review"

im assuming that means some decisions have been made?

maybe it just means the regional rep was reviewing it?

My S's interviewer told him that they were going to try to get most of the apps read before Thanksgiving. Admissions officers only read the completed applications. They start with the ones that have been completed first. Most of the apps do not go to committee. If your first two readers agree, that's the decision.

I just sent an e-mail with a correction in my app on Friday, and today someone from the admissions office wrote back telling me that it was no problem, and that they could just slip it in before my app was read. The person seemed to imply that my app hadn't even been read yet...?

cookiemom,

i agree with what you wrote. at least that is what i thought too. they just read the completed onces and dont wait till last 2 week to read everything. i mean that seems just weird.. they have 6 weeks, but choose to read all in last 2?

PW - Did you get your interview?

yeah! on sunday! at a coffee shop. though the guy did his masters, phd and postdoc at princeton. not undergrad. i guess there rn't many pton undergrads in the international region i live in.. it was great! we spent half the time talking about princeton. and he seems to know a lot about the undergrad life there.
