Ty anika!^_^

finically- go on one of the service trips through PACE. One time I took the opportunity to build houses down in Louisiana.

poobear87: Thank you for the suggestion. Sadly, the application deadlines for the trips ended before I was aware that there were such things. Usually the mailing lists keep us pretty well updated, but this was something I had no idea about. I did email PACE to ask if they might consider a late application but I never heard back. :frowning: Oh well.

If anyone else has suggestions, Iā€™d really appreciate it! :)

Intersession is a really nice period of time to just hang out and re-charge for the coming semester. During my past 3 intersessions, Iā€™ve gone on road trips with friends, done training for jobs (library) and worked a ton, did independent workā€¦this year I kind of donā€™t have a choice but to work on my thesis. I mean I just want to put forth that you donā€™t necessarily need to find ā€˜somethingā€™ to do to not be bored. Soo here are ideas:

go to the gym

sleep a lot

find a job/make $$

do psych studies/make $$

go to NYC and explore

go to Philly and explore

buy your books, clean your room, do your laundry, etc.

Itā€™ll be over faster than you thinkā€¦ and you really wonā€™t get that bored.

A simple question: Why should someone interested in Comp Sci/Physics/Maths choose P over H and Y.

I know of the reasons to go to Y (accepted EA) and H (just have done a lot of research on it) but less P. What specifically about P makes it great?

Cheers

I just posted a new thread before I saw this. Anyway here goes:

Hey I was wondering whether there was any way one could submit more than one essay in the Princeton Supplement. One of them would of course answer their question but I really want to include this other one that I wrote but that is not related to the topic also. Can I send them both within one document and point out that one is extra?

From what youā€™ve heard/experienced: Beneficial or not worth it?

Does Princeton Admissions look at your high school freshman grades?

^look at, yes
calculate into GPA, no

Is math 101 doable for a non math jock? Also, how many people taking introductory chinese are not coming from a chinese background?

the 101-102 sequence was designed primarily for athletes. If he takes it, he will be in the most intellectual company of football/lacrosse players. It is very doable especially if he works with other members of the track team who will be in that class with him.

As for intro chinese, all languages offer two sequences at each language level- one for native speakers and one for everyone else. Hence he would be placed in the non-chinese background class, unless of course he is of chinese background.

Thanks poobear87

Hello,

is taking the TOEFL absolutely necessary for international students even if I have already taken the SAT Reasoning Test and sent in the scores? How will it affect me if I donā€™t take it?

Thanks!

[Princeton University | Tips for International Students](http://www.princeton.edu/admission/applyingforadmission/international_students/)

If you attend a secondary school where English is not the primary language of instruction, and if English is not the primary language spoken in your home, you are required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).

Are your classes taught in English?

If Yes, No Toefl.

If No, Toefl is required.

Whether you have submitted your SAT scores is a non-issue because everyone has to.

I know this has been asked before, but I canā€™t find the answer. Is it faster to fly into Philly and take the train to Pton or fly into Newark and train into Pton? Iā€™ve done the latter, and last time we got stuck at the airport waiting for the train for 1.5 hours (apparently during rush hour on certain weekdays the train doesnā€™t stop at the airport). Someone told me that Philly is easier, faster, nicer. True?

Newark is the easiest by a mile. From Newark Liberty, there is a skytrain direct to NJTransit which you can take to Princeton Junction where the dinky will await.

Philly is a nightmare. You have to take a train to 35th street? then change to a train to Trenton where you then change to NJTransit to Princeton Junction and so forth. In theory the philly should be faster, but the train times are never aligned/infrequent which makes transfers quite stressful.

@poobear: You take the train to 30th St.

Also, I donā€™t see how Philly should be faster, even in theory; Princeton is 40 miles from Newark Liberty, but 55 miles from Philly International.

I will be a raising senior pretty soon. Could you let me know what my chances are of getting into Princeton. I will have to choose between early decision or regular next fall.

SAT - expecting between 2200 to 2300 based on test runs.

I go to a private school in the NE (Part of the Top 8 School System). The school does not give extra credit to college level/AP courses - so does not change the GPA. My GPA thus calculated so far is: 3.88.

Freshman Year - SAT MATH II - 780
Took in Sophomore year: AP Euro History - 5, AP Calc AB - 5, SAT Euro History - 780

Current Year (11th) courseload: AP US History, Linear Algebra, AP Physics with Mechanics (all three are college level, Latin and English.

Planning to take the AP/SAT exams at the end of my 11 th grade: AP US History, Calc BC, Macro & Micro Economics, Physics C, English Literature and English Reading; SAT US History, SAT Physics.

Extracurricular: Boy Scout (Eagle Scout). Non Profit founder related to eagle scout project - to extend the service beyond the Eagle- Scout.; Wrote a historical fiction book - currently being self-published.
Interned at the Department of Defense in the summer, and continued work with a large defense firm - may apply for a provisional patent for my work if it helps the college application. It takes a lot of time and money to do the application, and I want to do it only if it makes a difference.
thanks for your feedback.

Without this:

ā€œWrote a historical fiction book - currently being self-published.

Not much hope imo.

With it, a decent chance (if research/patent is for something good and book is received wellā€¦)

Thank You Idiosyncra3y.

You said ā€œNot much hopeā€ without those two. If I did not have those two, where do you think my weaknesses are? Your insight is much appreciated and will help me work on these weak areasā€¦ To summarize:
I will be taking about 8 AP exams by Junior year, and will have a 3.8 or so GPA (unweighted - if it was weighted for AP courses, it would be over 4). extracurriculares are Boy Scout and working with defense firms.
