Do muslims have higher chances of acceptance? muslim who are multiracial?

Hey guys I am a junior and I will be applying to the school in the fall. I had a shaky freshman year and got like 85s. I have been in all honors classes since the beginning of freshman year and I also have been taking AP classes since sophomore year. I have a straight 106 average since the beginning of sophomore year. I have been on Student Government 3 years being President of my class. I also have been on the Newspaper two years and also have been in the Speech and Debate Club for three years. I have been on football for threeyears, 2x varsity letterwinner, playing for the freshman and JV team in freshman year, and for varsity for sophomore and junior year. I was a captain junior year in football and the League and Team MVP. I was selected All- State First Team. I was All - League Sophomore Year and Junior Year. I have been a 3x varsity letterwinner, 2x Catholic State Champion, 1x Public State Champion, And 2x Captain on varsity wrestling. I have also been on baseball 3 years playinf for freshman team in freshman year and for the next two years I played varsity. I was a 2x League MVP and a 2x Team Captain. I also am being very heavily recruited by the football, wrestling, and baseball teams. I will be playing football and baseball. I am a a member of Habitat for Humanity and am an intern at an AIDS center and a prestigous hospital. I have 3 published works of literature in amateur writing magazines. I am a member of the National Honors Society. I am being extremely heavily recruited by these coaches and I also have been said to be a perennial first or second round pick in the 2012 MLB Draft. I am white and both parents are doctors. I would be majoring in political science.

Not everyone uses whatever GPA waiting that you guys use (Iā€™d argue standard is a 4.0 or 5.0) so I have no clue what your GPA actually is. Thereā€™s also no information about test scores which would give someone a better gauge.

Ultimately, itā€™s a crap shoot. ā€œChancingā€ and those kinds of threads are never entirely useful and never really made sense to me. If Princeton wants you, theyā€™ll take you. If youā€™re getting recruited by ivies then you have a shot - youā€™ll receive a ā€œlikelyā€ letter or something like that in the fall. Unfortunately, Iā€™m a musician so I canā€™t really help you with the sports side of things. Best of luck!

My son is Pā€™15, and my husband and I would like to buy him a Macbook Pro through the SCI as a high school graduation gift. Hubby likes the larger sized 15" one with the better graphics card, but I think smaller (13") is more portable/durable, and he really shouldnā€™t be playing too many video games anyway. :-)

Heā€™s planning to major in physics, if that matters. Any current students or other Pā€™15 families who have thoughts on this decision? Both my husband and I are open to input. Also, how likely are laptops to be stolen? Do students generally have an insurance policy to cover this?

Thanks!

I have both and the 15" is better IMO. The 13" is just too small. The 15" is also plenty portable. It fits into any backpack or carry-on. If you can afford the 15", go for it.

As far as stealing of laptops goes, I leave mine out all the time in my college library or in the Frist gallery for maybe an hour at a time (or even overnight in my dormā€™s common area), and itā€™s always in the same place when I get back. I havenā€™t heard any stories from my friends about anything more valuable than a container of laundry detergent being stolen either, although occasionally people do accidentally walk away from the Street with someone elseā€™s coat. People tend to be extremely respectful of other peopleā€™s stuff.

Is it true that Princeton can be almost free to the needy students via aid etc?

Yup, Princetonā€™s FA is all need based. And Iā€™m pretty sure families that make under $60000 arenā€™t expected to contribute anything. I think that goes for international students too. But Iā€™m not a 100% sure.

Itā€™s practically free for someone I know who goes there.

EDIT: Sorry, Iā€™m not a current Princeton student (am incoming), but I can say my FA package made attending almost free. (:

15" MCP all the way. I have the 13" and itā€™s a pain trying to have multiple windows up of MATLAB or anything else for that matter. But you should think about buying it just through the education.apple website instead of SCI - quite a bit cheaper. All you really need is to buy Microsoft Office for Macs software from OIT for like 50$. Also if you wait until August Apple does that back to school deal where they throw in an ipodā€¦

Security is great - people leave their stuff out in Frist all the time (I mean I wouldnā€™t recommend it if youā€™re leaving for a long time). You should lock rooms though, there have been thefts the last few years.

if ur cousins studied in princeton, does it count in legacy?!

I want to know if I should try to apply. My grades, scores, AND extracurriculars all may be a stretch, but I am serious about knowledge and I feel like Princeton would be a good fit.

GPA (end of junior year) 3.81 unweighted 4.05 weighted (extra pts for AP/honors)

I got all Aā€™s (some A+, some A-, mostly A) junior year and in general my grades are great, my schedule is rigorous; next year I will be taking 3 AP classes and I took one junior year.

Iā€™ve only taken the SAT once and I got a 2090 :/

Iā€™m white, and I live about 30 minutes away from the University and attend a public high school.

My school doesnā€™t release class rank before graduation I believe.

My dad is the only person in my family besides my sisters who has graduated with a Bachelorā€™s, and he went on to get his Ph.D; he went to Montclair and ASU; my sisters have attended Rider, Rutgers, Columbia, TCNJ, and Montclair. So Iā€™m noooo legacy.

Iā€™ve been in Key Club all throughout high school, I co-founded the club ā€œDoctors of Tomorrowā€ at my school, Iā€™ve been involved with Amnesty, Iā€™m a member of French Honors Society and National Honors Societyā€¦but Iā€™m only an officer of Doctors of Tomorrowā€¦as secretary.

Iā€™ve worked in a store since I turned 16 and Iā€™m in great standing there.

By the end of high school I will have taken:
4+ years of History, including AP
5+ years of English, including advanced creative writing and AP
5+ years of Science, including Honors Bio and Honors Chem, Anatomy, and AP Bio and Honors electives
4 years of Mathematics, with Honors Algebra 2, Honors Geometry, Trig, Analysis, and Honors Calc
5+ years of French including AP

My familyā€™s gross income is around $150,000 but we donā€™t have a lot of money to put towards my college education because of my sistersā€™ college costs.

I feel like my extracurriculars just donā€™t sufficeā€¦do I have any chance?

Your extracurriculars are fine!
Mine werenā€™t great either. Youā€™ve just gotta show enthusiasm for what you do, and illustrate in your application how you think your extracurriculars have constructively shaped your life and outlook on things.
Not that I could claim to be an admissions expert, but I think people fret too much about the extracurriculars. You can shine in other ways. :D

thanks @JAupiais. hopefully my passion & dedication will fill some of those gaps :)

My question is - do freshman have to stay in their original dorm all 4 years?

Not at all. Freshmen will stay in their assigned residential college - which is composed of at least four individual ā€œdormā€ buildings in all colleges other than Forbes - for their first two years, and then as rising juniors they have the options of drawing into the same college, certain other colleges, or upperclass housing (where most juniors draw). As rising seniors they have the same options.

Hi,

Princeton would be my top choice university. However, I think my ECā€™s are quite weak and I donā€™t have something that makes me stand out amongst other applicants. Is there anything I can try to work on that would make me stand out?

What are my chances as is for SCEA? What should I work on to increase my chances? I am thinking that I could work more in a community called Tin Shui Wai in HK. It is far from the urban center and has the highest unemployment and crime rates in HK. I did my Sophomore Research Paper and one idea is to use mathematical modeling to look at similar communities and give advice on how we could help the residents of Tin Shui Wai. But, I do not quite know where to startā€¦

I am from Nepal and want to apply for this fall. Here I have been waiting for my high school results. Can somebody tell me about the library facilities in detail along with the overview of the faculties.

[Princeton University - Library](Library | Princeton University) for the library, and
[Princeton University - Undergraduate Studies](Academics | Princeton University) for a list of the faculties.
Itā€™s not clear what you want to know about them, so youā€™ll have to find it out there. :)

Princeton is by far my number 1 choice for college. I am going into my Junior year of high school and as of right now i am salutatorian. My school doesnā€™t do ā€œGPAā€ per se. They do it on a 100 point scale. My unweighted grade thusforth is a 97.1. I am involved in quite a few extra curricular clubs, such as Student Council, my class, International Club and Science Club. For this upcoming year, i will be Vp of my class, president of student council and vp of international club. I will also be inducted into my schools National Honor Society this year. Is this considered too many ECā€™S? I am also super involved with HOBY since i was an ambassador this year for HOBY NYE, and i currently serve as Area president for my county and the 3 surrounding ones. I am involved with my church and have over 100 hours of community service. I am also a three sport athlete and do soccer, track and indoor track through the school, and i also do indoor soccer and travel soccer leagues out of school. I am planning on taking my SAT subject tests in spanish and world history this fall, along with my SAT. I havent taken any AP classes so far, but this coming year, i will be taking Ap USH, Composition, Spanish, Psychology and Sociology. Do you think that i will be accepted to Princeton for fall of 2013?
