Princeton used to do ED. Ray121988 must be an applicant from +4 years ago (not sure exactly when they stopped doing ED, but it was around this long ago).

For questbridge finalists applying to Princeton, are you supposed to select Restrictive Early Action or Regular Decision (as Yale and Stanford require)?

Are children 0f Princeton graduate students considered legacies?

Does it mean one just types out the name in the block for signature?

What have the other applicants done?

thanks

Could any students from princeton read my Common App Essay? I am applying under SCEA and its definitely late but Its the last part of my app and am confused whether its too obscure or/and abstract.

Pleaseā€¦

Hi,ā€¦am an International Student from Nepalā€¦

my SAT scores 2130 (CR 650 Math 710 Writing 770)ā€¦ Math IIC 800 Physics 800
Cambridge A Levels (Physics A* Math A* Computing A General Paper a)
good ECAsā€¦(not international recognition)ā€¦
ā€¦
Is the SAT score good enough? I should have scored better at Math ā€¦but SAT is a stupid test ;)

Also, I have a friend who scored just below 1500 total (all sections combined)ā€¦ but he has done lots of researchā€¦was invited by Nasa,ā€¦went to harvard ā€¦MIT for presentationsā€¦ Should he even bother applying? He is very talentedā€¦but not a good test takerā€¦
have any students been accepted with such low scores?

the scores will probably come out in February so will i be at a disadvantage if i send the scores that late

Does Princeton accept teacher recommendations by mail?
And how strict on they about the four years of foreign language requirement? I didnā€™t take Latin 4 because it conflicted with AP Chem

Iā€™d make sure that your guidance counselor included the fact that you couldnā€™t take latin 4 because of a conflict in your recommendation.

Is there a way to get something equivalent to an EECS degree at Princeton? Double major or dual degree?

There are no double majors or dual degrees. Several majors could be considered interdisciplinary.

Best places for late night dining off-campus? Are there any that serve dinner after 11pm or does the town mostly shut down?

Ustore (close to Blair), or the Wa (train station) is where most students go for a late night snack.

Depending on the night, hoagie haven may also be open late.

Thatā€™s pretty much it.

Hi,
Iā€™m also an international applicant applying for the class of 2016.

I was hoping anyone here could tell me about the OFRE program at the Science and Engineering department. Iā€™ve read all I could about it on Princetonā€™s website, but still canā€™t seem to entirely make out what its about, and if its even applicable to me and my career plans.

I was instantly caught by the highly interdisciplinary approach of this program, bringing together math, science and commerce. The strong emphasis on developing problem-solving skills and a different approach to real-world problems also fascinated me, and felt like a breath of fresh air compared to economics, my initial intended major, which I feel can get a bit too theoretical at times, and not very practical and rigorous in terms of problem-solving.

All Iā€™d like to confirm is if this major really is all Iā€™m thinking it to be. Or has it got more to do with science and engineering than finance and economics?

Thanks in advance!

@leo118 - you have a good sense of the ORFE major. There is a lot of overlap with an Economics major ā€“ but it is generally considered more mathematical and also quite a bit more rigorous because of all the engineering requirements. Some people start off in ORFE and then end up switching to an AB in Economics. ORFE is very interdisciplinary and has several tracks ā€“ you can focus more on the finance side or more on the operations research side. My son is an ORFE major and LOVES it. You can also supplement your interest/focus with certificates (like minors) in other subjects like finance or computer science.

@ princeton13mom- Thankyou! =D

What is the male/female ratio within the engineering department?

Females compose 40% of the engineering freshman class.

Recently three women out of a four member team won a national programming contest. [Students win national programming competition - The Daily Princetonian](http://www.dailyprincetonian.com/2011/12/05/29549/)

You will discover many talented women STEM students. Princeton roommates Alexandra Ovetsky '06 and Allison Bishop '06 came in first and second for the Alice T. Schafer Prize. This prize is awarded to the nationā€™s top female undergrad in math by the Association for Women in Mathematics for excellence in mathematics. Both Ovetsky and Bishop won Goldwater Scholarships. In 2001 Ana Caraiani '07 was the first girl to make Romaniaā€™s countryĀ’s Mathematical Olympiad team in 25 years and she was a two- time Romanian International Olympiad gold medalist. Ana was named a Putnam Fellow in 2003 and 2004 in both her freshman and sophomore years, and is the only woman ever to have done so. In 2007 Ana also won the Alice T. Schafer Prize. In the same year Tamara Broderick '07 came in second and won a Marshall Scholarship to study math at Cambridge University. BroderickĀ’s senior thesis was equal parts math, neuroscience, physics and computer science. She previously won a Goldwater Scholarship for her work in mathematics and physics and has spent past summers researching dark energy and gravitational lensing.

A current female engineering student Eden Full has taken a year off to develop her solar energy invention.
Hey everyone!

Iā€™m applying Regular Decision to Princeton and although the deadline for the application is technically January 1, they have written on their website that they would prefer applicants to submit by December 15 ā€œif possibleā€. I was wondering if this offers any type of advantage - like do they begin reviewing applications starting tomorrow? Or is it just to ease up their paperwork later on? Iā€™m done with my application for the most part, but I wanted to wait a while and see if I could strengthen my essaysā€¦

To any of the previous students: did you guys submit your applications after the Dec 15 preferred submission date and still get accepted?

Also would it be okay if my supplemental essay is over the word count of 500 words? My topic is quite large-scale and itā€™s pretty much impossible to take things outā€¦ I have about 750 words right now.

Thanks so much! :)

I didnā€™t submit my application until late December and was accepted. Iā€™m not sure if the admissions officers read the applications in the order theyā€™re received. You want to submit your strongest application possible, not by the earliest time possible.
