hey
i know theres a whole thread on interviews but there was nothing about attire and more specifically, princeton interview attire. so sorry about that.

i have an interview tomorrow and i was just gonna dress like a regular human being. There is nothing she said in the email or phone about dress code or attire. So is there some standard of what i should wear or something?

Better to air on the side of caution and overdress a little, than to dress too causally. Generally jeans are a no-no. You won't have to go all out in a suit, but try to wear a pair of nice pants and maybe a button down shirt.

Do you have khaki pants and a shirt with a collar? Polo shirt is probably best. Belt if you tuck it in. Shoes that aren't usually worn for sports?

If the interviewer is under 40 you can be more casual. But over 40 and/or in a business setting, be more conservative.

I know, I know. It will be OK.

Yeah, button down will scream "I belong at P-ton"

oh man tnx guys i was gonna wear jeans...whew close one
ill go with alligator skin shoes, italian-imported khakis with snake-skin belt, giorgio armani shirt with dkny vest, followed by a spring season casmire scarff. haha

um im not wearing jeans
did you read the post? im going for spring 2008 high class fashion baby! YEAH!
theres room for more than one brad pitt in this world ahhahahahahahahaahhahaa

Ummm... conservative should be the operative word here, not high-fashion magazine cover. If someone has brought the image of khakis and a collared shirt, how does that compare with your proposed outfit?

I just did a full suit. Looks professional, feels comfortable, and adds confidence. Regardless of what your interviewer wears, a full suit would be more than acceptable.

think about where your interview is going to take place and dress accordingly. my harvard interview was at the alumn's house and so it was pretty casual. i just wore a nice jacket, nice jeans, polo, sweater, and nice casual shoes.

also i agree with T26E4. what you proposed to wear is a little much.

hey guys well im just about to leave
I WAS KIDDING ABOUT THE WHOLE SNAKE-SKIN STUFF!!! i thought it was totally obvious
well im wearing khakis, a sweater and probably nike's,....im bringing dress shoes just in case
tnx again

Hey nbui: you had us going. But sometimes you see some pretty crazy stuff on these forums. Although I've never had it happen to me, I know fellow intereviewers who have been met by women with low-cut dresses and guys in sandals. One Harvard interviewer I know once had a candidate with a drippy nose that refused to wipe himself. Although in that person's culture, it was acceptable, the interviewer did comment on how the kid should have known better in an American context.

I'd just been grossed out and said something to Brother Drippy: "Woudja mind wiping your upper lip, PLEEZ? I can't look at you!" LOL
