Princeton Interview

Recently my son had his interview with an alumni. He is not sure how it went or how to judge the outcome. It was suppose to last 30 minutes, but it lasted almost an hour. My son said the guy wouldn't let him get a word in edgewise and only talked about himself. He asked one or two questions, which he was barely able to respond. He is very polite and maybe should have been a little more assertive, but he has never had trouble talking with adults.

this shows you exactly why colleges value so little the write ups by alumni interviewers. While I don’t think your son will get a negative report whatsoever, I don’t think he had a chance to impart memorable features of himself to supplement his file. I interview for a Pton peer and I say: “tell me about yourself” “tell me what else about you you’d like the college to know”.

But as I said at first, the interview is the slimmest portion of the evaluation (and rightly so) – rarely coming into play.

Best of luck to your son.
