BUT...
-My dad is an alumni at Princeton University, so I get legacy
-I managed to befriend a professor at Princeton, at the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs, during a college visit and he will write me a recommendation for me to go there (Princeton and Woodrow Wilson School).

So, esteemed CC Princeton know-alls (and know-somes), I ask you some very valuable questions (for me):

1) Do I have a chance for Princeton? How likely will I be accepted?

2) I know that my SAT Reasoning and ACT test scores are quite low (relatively), and also that I only have one good SAT subject score, but I know I'll do really well on the January SATs. Should I take the Reasoning or Subject test? (Considering that I'll do well in either one of them.) Also, does Princeton value the SAT Reasoning or SAT Subject test more?

Thank you so much for your time, ladies and gentlemen.

You being legacy automatically gives you a good shot.

The LOR from the professor seems rather pointless to me. I don’t think it’d give the admissions committee much information since you had very little contact with the professor. The recs from your teachers (who’ve known you for a year or more) will weigh far more.

Your SAT scores are holding you back. A shame too since the SAT test scores can be improved so easily, but it’s too late for that now. I say retake the reasoning test since you can improve 3 scores at once. You probably have forgotten too much bio and chem to do well on those subject tests.

Overall, I’d say Princeton’s a slight reach for you (better than a “reach,” not as good as a “match”).

If I did really well on the January SAT, will that make a huge difference? (I get like 2250+) And will my one bad SAT Subject score (Princeton takes 2) really make that much a difference in my chances?

Thanks once again

You have a chance! Still no promise (it’s Princeton…) but they accept 30 - 40% of legacies. So that - and your EC’s - should be your hook! Good Luck on those Jan. SAT’s!

also - the bad SAT II - don’t dwell on it.

I wouldn’t be surprised if you weren’t accepted. You’re going to have to get that SAT up if you wanna make something happen. It’s imperative.

And being Asian is not going to help at all.

Colleges can see all your test scores.

I always got the impression that Princeton cares more about SAT Subject Tests than SAT Reasoning.

The fact that your a legacy gives you a shot. However, your SAT/ACT scores arent doing you any favors. I’d say Pton is a reach for you because of your scores and dearth of any major awards. However, I too am a Pton hopeful so maybe I am just being overly competitive = D.

If it is you dream…then work hard friend. Best of luck for the Jan SAts…

Princeton is your dream school? Princeton is the best school in the country, if not the world.

It is the dream school for many, and therefore acceptance will be exceedingly difficult. With that being said, your SAT’s are too low.

If I were to get a 2250+ on the next SAT reasoning, how much will my chances improve?

significantly tho I still think it would be an uphill battle as you can’t fix your subject tests.

Scores are hurting you way too much even with your legacy, I think its a very high reach.

I think if you got a 2250+ on the next SAT Reasoning, you’re in.
