Hey guys, I have been chosen for a special team to join the Princeton MUN 2014. But it is going to be quite expensive for me to join it. I would like to take your opinion on whether I should go or not. I really want to go, but I understand that it isn't as well-known as other Ivy MUNs. Would it help my application as an international student aiming for top colleges in the US? Or should I wait for another one? All answers are welcome, thank you.

It should definitely help you app once you apply for college IF you achieve something

Did you ask if scholarship is available?

So here is the bottom line – I don’t think attending these Ivy League model UN conferences in and of itself will not really help your application at all – it is how you can perform there. Are you a top debater that can win an award or gavel or whatever it is they call those things at MUN? At such a high level conference, can YOU stand out? If not, then it would be my recommendation not to spend the money, especially as an international student. Do local MUN events where you can be the standout participant. It might be wrong if the conference was an application only process - and only certain debate teams were allowed in (like in soccer, we have the SURF Cup and it is a top national college recruiting tournament but only select teams are invited and only top teams are placed in the top bracket). So just being there says something … But from the website, it appears that any team can register and attend the Princeton MUN conference if they can pay the fees. I could be wrong.

Thanks guys
