I just posted the same question on the Princeton board and now I want a Stanford perspective. I was accepted to both AMAZING schools. Currently, I am undecided about my major. Outside of academics, I'm really into theatre. I"m from Southern California and I'm a little scared to go all across the country for college, but I'm still considering it. Thanks for your help!

ok well I'm biased since I'm most probably attending Stanford and really didn't want to apply to Princeton, but I'll tell you what I thought of it anyway! It was the first university I visited (I'm international btw and live in Singapore), and I expected it to be amazing... I was TOTALLY let down. I found it was in a really remote location, the buildings weren't my type, the main social scene was EATING CLUBS?! and there were about a total of 7 shops/cafes on the street outside... yes i'm probably exaggerating, but it's not far from the truth. However, Princeton does have more of an undergraduate focus! Also, obviously I have pretty strong opinions about Princeton, and I'm aware that tons of people absolutely love the campus etc. It just wasn't for me. So if you haven't visited, it might be a good idea to do that because you'll probably know straightaway if it's the environment you want to be in!

I was in the same position, I got accepted to Stanford EA and Princeton RD. I finally decided on Stanford. My reasons were that Stanford was closer to home (but not too close, I live in Oregon), had laid back west-coast atmosphere, better weather, and when I visited everyone seemed so upbeat and I thought the campus was really beautiful. Good luck in your decision and congratulations!

This is a tough decision since you're dealing with 2 great options. I can shed the following light on your dilemma (and it may or may not be applicable to you):
My husband is a physicist who went to Stanford. He has a colleague who went to Princeton. The Princetonian transferred to Harvard after 2 years because he couldn't stand what he perceived as a very parochial environment. My husband never had any such feelings about Stanford and he grew up overseas, so he had seen how life is lived in many different places.
That having been said, both are great schools.

Wow. Its nice to know I'm not the only one agonizing over this decision. The schools are so different, yet I cannot seem to find a way to decide between them. On the one hand, Princeton probably has the best educational opportunities available to undergraduates in the nation. On the other hand, Stanford has... essentially equal opportunities and is one of the happiest and best adjusted schools in the nation. Then there's the issue of East Coast versus West Coast. Stanford's laid back nature and Princeton's elitism. Stanford's grade inflation and Princeton's curve. Snow and palm trees. I just don't know how to decide.

(I think you should go to Stanford if you want to be an Ubermensch like me)

visit both campuses. whichever gives u a better vibe, go for it.

u got to pick a place where u'll fit in cuz thats how u'll do ur best -- when ur in the best environment for urself.

dreamer - princeton is in a remote location? are u sure u went to the rite school, i dont count 45 minutes from NYC and 50 minutes from philly as remote, but then again im from phoenix where i can drive for an hour or so and still be in phoenix. it really depends on ur taste then because gothic architecture is regarded as one of the most beautiful styles. also, eating clubs are more than just a place where u eat. its a social gathering, somewhat like a frat/sorority but not quite

i suggest u to visit both schools candy, and like i said on the princeton board, princeton has better theater =P

but both are amazing schools and im sure u will be happy at either one. just visit and then u will get a better feel. congratulations on ur acceptances =P

this is the pton perspective for this particular person

haha yeh well I live in Singapore where everything is really close... and it took about 1.5hrs to get to Princeton from NYC btw in a car when I went. I never said gothic architecture wasn't a good style, i just said it wasn't the style for me. A lot of my friends felt exactly the same way about Princeton so maybe it's a Singapore thing!
