I know it’s a little late, but did you consider having him do the international pre-orientation? My D did it last year (U.S. citizen grown up abroad) and it was a great way to settle in and make other international friends before OA. It may be way too late, but you never know–they might take him in for that at the last minute if you try.

Probably it would be good to have a lock on his bike (and begin an engineer + living in Forbes makes a bike an absolute necessity) and to keep his door locked, but that’s as far as I would go.

I wouldn’t worry about having to move in by yourself - they have a bunch of upperclassman volunteers there to help you move in.

Parents of Princeton class of 16, welcome to Princeton parent thread!
Here you can find some answers to your questions. We will try to answer questions that you don’t find answers here.

Peaceful thoughts to all of you waiting to hear admission decisions today…

Thanks tigerdad…We are sooo happy our son has been accepted!! Thanks for the thread…it is very useful…I have learned so much already reading all the parents posts…did your son/daugther attend OA??

My son attended OA this past year and really enjoyed it even though it got cut short due to extreme weather. He’d do it again if he could.

Sent from my DROID2 GLOBAL using CC App

Congrats to your son, Nenita! D loved OA - be sure to watch announcements and sign up early because they fill to capacity.

Nenita, Congratulations to your son. S did attend OA and enjoyed it. They learned a lot of sustainable outdoor skills and formed good friendship.

Nenita, Another congratulations to your S. My son did OA last year and will be a leader this year he enjoyed it so much…except that rain thing!

Thanks to all !! Do you recommend any specific OA trip?? Does S need special outfit?

They will send you a packing list. It would be good to get some lightweight hiking boots now, however, the kind made partly of Goretex.

DD is very, very eager to attend OA (from NorCal). Will she get email prompting sign-up or should she look for registration info on website? Thanks!

Just want to post a Hello to other Princeton parents. Our daughter will be in the class of 2016. Her first choice school by far. She is happy, we are happy . . . it’s a beautiful spring and it’s all good . . .

According to the website, the application for OA will go live in May. Here’s a link, but if I recall correctly emails are sent out as well. [Outdoor Action Frosh Trip Information](Frosh Trip | Outdoor Action)

Flashgrd3: Thanks!! I now have it bookmarked.
Sewhappy: Ditto what you said! p.s. I sew, too :)

Hey parents,

I’m not yet a parent of a Princeton student. My son was accepted SCEA this year and he’s deciding among Princeton, MIT, Caltech, Harvey Mudd, Penn and possibly a full ride safety.

Aid at Princeton and Caltech are fantastic, Mudd is in the middle, and MIT and Penn are more (but ultimately doable with small loans as we are under 80K income).

My son has several friends at Princeton and is leaning towards Princeton but he did a visit to MIT in the fall (can’t attend their preview day as it conflicts with Princeton, and he’s kind of bummed) and loved it there. On another thread, I am hearing that there really isn’t focus on undergrads at Princeton and that professors don’t get to know freshmen and sophomores since most classes are taught by TAs.

My son would likely be a math major, though probably he would test place out of freshmen classes as he’s taken lots of college math.

I would welcome honest feedback about the downside to Princeton in terms of professor accessibility, lack of relationship with them, etc.

One of the best things for us would the be Princeton Evangelical Fellowship and the Westerly Road Church. My son has also had some very positive interactions with admissions and one of his friends there says she’s like a kid in a candy store at Princeton-that there’s so much there for her.

So, I’m hearing quite conflicting information.

Thanks for letting me post here.

Princeton doesn’t focus on undergraduates? Where did you hear that? When the undergraduates at Princeton outnumber the grad students 2:1 when the usual ratio is 1:3 at most other top universities, you can bet there’s a focus on undergraduates.

There is indeed a focus on undergraduates at Princeton, and as far as I know no classes at all are taught by TA’s–in 3 years, every class I’ve taken has been taught by a professor, except for two calc classes which were taught by post-doc lecturers.

sbjdroio- the focus at MIT is on the grads…

Is someone (Any parent)going for the preview days next week?? I will not be going, but would love to hear any comments…
