Princeton Premed

My plan is to major in biomed engineering with a minor in econ and go onto med school afterwards. But my major is kinda tentative and im more concerned about getting into a good med school. Out of Princeton, Stanford, Caltech, and Yale (maybe Harvard if im lucky to get off the waiting list) which school would best fit my description and can you provide me with specific details why that is so. Thanks for everyone's help

There is no set Biomedical Engineering major at Princeton. There is an Engineering Biology certificate (like a minor) that has strong overlaps with Chemical, Mechanical, and Electrical Engineering, so you have flexibility in studying what specific aspect of Biomedical you most enjoy.

Also, there is no econ minor, you would probably get a certificate in Finance. I'm not sure exactly why you want this if you are pre-med, but it is one of the more challenging certificates to get, in terms of total number of classes, and besides math, there is little overlap between pre-med and finance. It has been done, but your elective choices would be very limited.

Princeton is a great school to be a pre-med at. Since the grad school is so small, there are tons of research opportunities for undergrads. We don't have a med school though, so all medically related volunteer work or shadowing must be done at the hospital in town, which has a strong relationship with the university. Like all other top undergrad schools, if you do well academically, you'll get into good medical schools. Hope this helps

thanks, you provided a lot of help. im just thinking about an econ minor just because i heard that princeton's finance department is so strong and I want to keep my options open. Would you be able to compare the strength of Princeton's Engineering Biology program with the biomedical engineering programs of other schools? Princeton is not ranked on the US News rankings for biomedical engineering and I was wondering if that is because it doesn't have a set biomedical engineering major. Im specifically looking at Stanford and Princeton and was wondering how you would rank the prospects of pre-med students looking at med school from each school as well as the strength of their biomedical engineering (or Engineering Biology ) programs.

Stanford is the best for biomedical engineering after MIT, and really successful with Med School.
