Princeton Preview...for parents

Can anybody offer any tips for parents attending Princeton Preview? We have a reception with the Dean scheduled for Thursday. What other events or areas should I make it a point to attend or see? Is the dress code casual for the parents as well as the students? TIA

I was there last week and you should plan on dressing on the casual side with a good pair of walking shoes!!
There is much to see and you will have the opportunity to see the President’s address to the admitted students in another building…simulcast. The President’s welcome reception was lovely affair with wine, finger sandwiches, etc.
Try and take one of the official tours led by one of the students, most informative.
Ask away.

oops, forgot to add that you should try and go to the Faculty Panel event, see some of the faculty etc. When you arrive, you will get a brochure designed for the parents and your child receives their own schedule.

the dress code is casual. It’s supposed to be a beautiful weekend. Make sure the check out prospect garden- I’m sure it’s in full bloom and was one of my favorite places on campus. Also, the walk between butler/wilson with all of the magnolias. Get some bent spoon!

Heading there tomorrow with my daughter. What about the cultural program Thursday evening? Worth attending?

Do many of the admitted students sit in on one or more of the open classes? That sounds like such a great opportunity (wish I could attend a class!!).

a lot of admitted students, and some parents, sit in on classes. It’s a great experience, and considering that you are deciding where to go for college, seems like a smart idea. If you sit in on one of the more humanities based lecture classes, you won’t be noticeable, as many classes have adults auditors from the community in them.

My daughter attended the cultural event and loved it. The classes my daughter sat in on did NOT have parents in them, just an fyi. Hers were international relations based courses.

Thanks for the replies so far. My husband has to work, so my mom is coming along to keep me company. She won’t be able to do a lot of walking, so I want to plan ahead.

My son wants to be there in time to do the Faculty Panel so perhaps I’ll sit in on that one then, on your recommendation! I guess I won’t sit in on any classes. I want to tour for sure since I haven’t visited in over 30 years!

EC1234, bent spoon?

I’m glad to know the parents get a brochure!

Absolutely go to a class if you can. I still remember the class my D and I sat in. International Relations, on Japan/Korea/China/US negotiations, guest lecturer a former senior official in the Japanese diplomatic corps. Honestly? Shivers up my spine. And, the professor was more than gracious in saying OK when my D asked if we could sit in.

Bent spoon is an ice cream/gelato place in the town of princeton. It’s in palmer square, which is a nice place to hang out if it’s nice outside. Plus it has amazing ice cream and lots of fun flavors.

I am a prefrosh that is planning on driving over to Princeton on my own tommorow. Is there going to be a parking lot where I will be able to park my car for the entire Princeton Preview.

^ Yes. More information can be found on Princeton’s admitted student website or in the attachment that comes with your registration confirmation email.

Yeah, when I went for it last week, my parents and I attended some classes. It wasn’t a problem. There’s a lot to do for parents: receptions, panels with students or alumni, tours, etc. But I was not with my parents for most of the time and they still had plenty of stuff to do.
