Recently finding out of my admission I was excited and thought that the time for freaking out over college is over. Parents never fail to amaze though.

Currently they are busy freaking out over the Princeton preview weekend, what I am going to wear, and making the right first impression. As a student I feel that it might feel awkward wearing dress shirt/pants/tie, as my parents are suggesting, considering the weekend is hosted by other students.

So, any suggestions as far as this whole thing goes would be greatly appreciated.

It is a casual weekend. Dress like you would normally dress if you were going to say, college. You are going to be living with regular students who want to show you Princeton…not people you have to impress at all. I would definitely bring a dress/skirt (girls) and a nice shirt/pants (guys), because I’m pretty sure they have a semiformal event or something like that, but they’ll tell you.

If you are wondering about the event in general: there are a bunch of huge tents around campus organized by residential college, and when you arrive your student host will come to meet you. Basically you’ll hang out with them/their friends, walk around, meet other prefrosh (as we love to call you) and current students. There are a number of open houses/talks/things you can sign up for, and on Saturday night they have some fun events to show you performing arts groups, etc. You can also go to a dance at one of the clubs (it’s definitely dry, so your parents don’t need to be worried there). And then you go home.

JTC is right - Princeton Preview is DEFINITELY a casual weekend. I’m hosting some kids again this year and I would definitely ask you *** you were doing if you showed up in like a suit and tie. If your parents want you to dress nicer than you would around your house without looking weird, a simple rule of thumb would be to just dress preppy.
