Princeton prof wins Fields Medal, "Nobel of Math"

The Fields Medals are the equivalent of a Nobel Prize in mathematics and awarded every four years to up to four mathematicians under the age of 40. The winners who accepted their medals today are:

● Andrei Okounkov from Princeton University in New Jersey, US

● Terence Tao from the University of California in Los Angeles, US

● Wendelin Werner from the University of Paris-Sud in Orsay, France

Not to mention the second guy- Terence Tao, is an aussie who did his PhD at Princeton :)

This Okounkov has done some really fascinating work.

He certainly deserves the Fields.

what a genius.

An RSI alumni.

I believe Terence Tao was featured on the CNN Special "Genius" last evening with Dr. Gupta. Really an interesting program. Contrasting with Tao and his work was a segment on the various tools parents use to help their children to develop into geniuses...and we wonder where the college stress comes from!

in addition, tao just awarded a macarthur "genius" grant. not a bad couple weeks.
