Princeton RD 2020 thread

Since it’s been almost 2 weeks since the SCEA deadline passed, I want to figure out who’s planning to apply RD. Who here is excited to apply to Princeton?

I am

I am applying in RD too. Unless I miraculously get into my EA college :-p

I am! Just got the notification that they’ve received everything and are reviewing my application

RD here too unless there is an EA acceptance from MIT.

I’m pretty likely to apply right now; even more likely if I’m accepted to Michigan EA.

@dcplanner Hahaha. Same here.

I am! Was thinking about applying SCEA but deadlines go by so fast

I am! Do we need SAT subject tests to be competitive? I have a 34 on the ACT so do I still need subject tests?

@greysanatomy3113 I don’t think you need them, but I took them anyway because I didn’t think it would hurt too much. I have 34 on the ACT too.

Lots of 34s here! I took Math ii and Physics because they’re required at some of my other schools and they’re still recommended… If it’s not an issue, why not try to meet all of their recommendations? 34 is a solid score but if you want to show more mastery on a specific area, since things like foreign language, history, or sciences aren’t really tested by SAT/ACT (ACT science doesn’t really count either, it’s just reading graphs)

I’m an EA Applicant, just figured I’d pop in to answer.

Do you guys have SAT II subject tests above 750?

@greysanatomy3113 800 Math II and 770 Physics. Shooting for a BSE, and my SAT and AP exams show pretty solid domination in that regard. My ACT math was a bit lower at 34. I also sent my SAT I (800M, 740CR, 690W). I think my SAT best showcases math and my ACT best showcases english, so hopefully they balance out somewhat. I was so disappointed to see that 6 on the SAT results day, since I was hoping for “triple sevens” as I kept referring to them, but getting that 8 eased my nerves somewhat.

Think I should send my 34 ACT if I sent my 2280 superscored SAT, 2250 single sitting?

@Ksty1098 I sent both with pretty much identical stats (minus the superscore, I only took one SAT sitting at 2240). Not sure if there’s a huge difference, if anything they prefer the SAT but it could help show that your score isn’t a fluke.

Im just worried because I have a bad writing score on my act, 29 combined/ 8 essay. Versus 700 on the sat with 10 essay

RD here! Nice to meet you all
@Ksty1098 Yeah, I’d do it. A 34 is still an above average score, and your SAT score will be there as proof that you’re a capable writer. I sent in my ACT too, and it was an 8 essay too. I think it’s better to show that you can aptly perform on both standardized tests, and there’s no reason why you shouldn’t do so if you already have the scores.

I be applying RD

@greysanatomy3113 - I wouldn’t focus too much on SAT scores. My son was deferred EA with an SAT I score of Math 800, CR 800 and WR 780 so obviously a lot more goes into decisions than just SAT scores. B-)

Hi there everyone - quick question about the primary essay. I don’t want to go into great detail on what I’m planning on writing about, but suffice it to say I think it’s an original way to use one of the prompts in answering the question. What I’m wondering is if including an original poem is acceptable. I wouldn’t use just any poem, of course - this poem has won several awards (not at all trying to be a braggart, simply show that it’s not just a random poem, haha). The poem relates perfectly to the message I’m trying to express in my response as a whole. In terms of word count, the poem is only 93 words, so that’s not much of a concern. So basically: would it be a bad idea to include a poem as part of my response? Thanks in advance, and sorry for the long explanation!
