Princeton RD 2020 thread

@herpinderpin That is great news to hear. I did and filled it out immediately. Hence, my question about the app portal. :slight_smile:

Where is the stamp on the print/review page?

Wait, I got that email too. Was there seriously a strong correlation with receiving that email and admittance in past years?

I thought financial aid and admissions offices were separate, and the FA office sent reminders independent of what’s going on in the admissions office (i.e. they contact everyone who forgot to fill out that form). But hey, I’d LOVE to believe that I actually have a shot at Princeton.

Edit: Did anyone who forgot to fill out the form /not receive that email?

What if we are not applying for aid? Should we still get that email?
EDIT: Dumb question :stuck_out_tongue:

They might be doing things differently this year. In past years it was definitely noted as a strong correlation, but if everyone is getting it this year (note: most people who were accepted and received the email about missing documents received the email in late March, not late February), then it might mean that it’s just an automatic kind of thing. I think the argument for why it might correlate so strongly is because they wouldn’t waste time asking students to provide missing financial aid documents if they weren’t going to accept them.

@herpinderpin : I also got this last week. I posted a thread about it before I saw your post. I don’t know if it means anything. Like you said, if they’re taking the time to send this out to specific people, it would mean that the student is a possible contender. At the same time, it was sent earlier than last year so maybe it’s generic.

Can we can make an agreement that if any of us receive a likely letter we will share the good news with the rest of the group? No expectations here, but one can hope.

@CollegeGuru2020 to my knowledge only recruited athletes and Questbridge applicants receive likely letters from Princeton. I believe some other Ivys have a different policy and may use likely letters for other types of applicants.

@Cantiger Thank you for the update, that makes a lot of sense.

@glasshours I think they are separate, but I wouldn’t consider it a breech of separation if admissions said “here’s who we want, make a package for the following students.”

I got the tax document request email in December as an SCEA applicant, and never received confirmation (another thing that allegedly correlated with admission) and was deferred. Current rumor is that it maybe possibly matters RD but nobody knows for sure because we don’t work at Princeton.

I applied for aid and didn’t get the email. But I think all my stuff was in so I don’t know if that changes something.

Does Princeton have a financial aid tracker? Like to make sure they’ve received our FAFSA, taxes, CSS, etc?
@CollegeGuru2020 I’m a QuestBridge applicant and I have been checking my mail almost everyday for a likely letter. Doubt I’ll get one but I can hope, can’t I?

I am also a Questbridge finalist. Does anyone know when does Princeton sends out their likely letters? I know that Yale sent out all of theirs.

I just did my alumni interview because I wasn’t offered it until this past Sunday, which I thought was pretty late. Does anyone know if my late interview has anything to do with my application review being good or bad?

@bluepaint1 I didn’t match colleges, which I definitely regret. Did you do the college match?

@DaPueo I did do the college match. But since I’m really bad at making decisions and really wanted to keep my options open I only applied to the non-binding ones, minus Yale. I think one of the main reasons why I didn’t matched was because I took SAT II in November so colleges didn’t have a complete application yet. I guess. Maybe I’m just trying to justify the imminent doom of rejections. I did forward my MIT app to Early Action though since they give you that option, but I was rejected. I wasn’t surprised by this though because I know my interview didn’t go well, I really only applied because my dad wanted me to, they used the QB app and one of my essays was a last minute thing, and my scores are atrocious.

@DaPueo In relation to the likely letters, I really don’t know minus a general time frame of within the next 2 weeks. If anyone knows more they should totally share.

@bluepaint1
I have no academic support at my school, from my counselor or other students because my school is a feeder for Walmart and my local CC, so I didn’t understand how to apply for college until I spent my winter break learning everything there is to it. Plus, I was scared of the binding commitment like you.

@bluepaint1 Good luck! Let me know if you get anything.

Regarding likely letters, they get sent out to applicants who basically have been accepted, but they can’t send out acceptance letters until the end of March. So if you receive one you’ve basically been accepted!

Not sure if this helps anyone, but my daughter was accepted EA on December 16 and didn’t have her interview until December 12. It was a Skype interview and that same weekend she got an email requesting tax information. She indicated that she would be applying for FA but I never sent any info in until that weekend. We were definately hopeful that she was still in the running because of the late request for interview and tax info. Best of luck to everyone on this tread ~:> (those of you who were on this thread for EA might remember the duck and that its for good luck!)

@Pburgmom Chicken! :wink:
