Princeton RD Class of 2023 Discussion Thread

I realized there doesn’t seem to be a thread for this yet. Feel free to post your stats, intended majors, why you love Princeton, etc.

What application factors are most important for Princeton’s SCEA? GPA, SATs/ACTs, ECs, Essay, other? How important is “fit” for SCEA? And what is “fit”?

All of those factors are important for Princeton’s SCEA applicants, as it is for regular applicants. Contrary to popular opinion, SCEA applicants do not receive a significant boost in probability of admission simply because they applied early. Consider that most legacies, essentially all recruited athletes, children of faculty, staff and dignitaries, and winners of very prestigious awards/exceptionally qualified applicants will be applying SCEA.

“Fit” is probably subjective but I would define it as an applicant who has the probability of not only succeeding in Princeton’s rigorous academic environment, but who is likely to contribute meaningfully to the reputation of Princeton both nationally and globally. These applicants can be exceptional, published writers, gifted in the performing arts, nationally/internationally ranked athletes, innovators, scientists etc. Princeton admits both students who have narrow specializations and those who are broadly accomplished and gifted.

One attribute that is common to most of the Princeton students I have met is a hesitation to brag of their own accomplishments. My son (BSE '16) says this is because you are never quite sure who you are talking to, and the likelihood is that said person is considerably more accomplished than you are. This is of course not universal but a tendency I have observed broadly among students.

Anyone know why applicant threads for the class of 2023 are not as active as the class of 2022 when they were at these periods of time?

@Cantiger

My BSE ‘20 recently said the same thing. #HumilityCheck :wink:

Due today! Good luck to all.

anyone received alumni interview? i submitted 1/1/2019 and not heard anything yet

@pandi2023 Neither have I. I’m based in Canada so I’m not surprised if there isn’t an alumni interviewer close by. I do wish that they could have offered us the chance to request a skype/phone interview. tho. Constantly check all your Spam, Promotions, Updates, Social, or whatever folders there are in your email. Good luck.

I got an email for an interview last week and I submitted my application on 12/31/18

Does everyone get an interview or is it the top number of applicants?

Does everyone get an interview or are they chosen based on the applicant application?

Just had my Princeton interview, definitely my favorite interview so far! :slight_smile:

Does Princeton send likely letters? If so, is it only to certain majors like some other schools. I applied as WWS and economics
