GOODBYE PRINCETON!!

It was nice dreaming of you in November!!

:( :( :(

You shouldn't give up so easily.

What is going to happen if and when they decide to put their marketing plan at the level of their peers?

Then, ladies and gentlemen, Princeton will regain its earlier stature of an exclusive, inapproachable bastion of...um, demi-gods...

In other words, it will become the US equivalent on the Indian Institute of Technology.

I'm not giving up Schwaby, I'm just being realistic. If I didn't make it in the ED round, there's probably no way in hell that I'll make it in NOW.... considering our calculation that about TWELVE international students wanting to pursue BSE will be admitted.....

son of a biatch

gg princeton... time to apply to mcgill.. and scholarships..

this is so depressing....5% RD? 2% for internationals?

haha, this article has caused an outpouring of, er, *"distress" *from the RDers...how I wish [again] that I'd gotten in ED.

2% for international??? what? where did uget that from..

Because I don't think anyone has done this math yet, I'm going to do it, just to say I did.

so 593 ED = 49% of the class, therefore class size of 1210, which means 617 matriculants ED.

Estimate a 70% yield, that means 881 admits.

With 15,484 applicants, that means the rate will be closer to 5.7% - better than the 3 percent, but still damn tough.

You wanted to do BSE, right, PW? well guess what we calculated - 12 intls will be admitted from RD+deferred lot....

Just to give you an idea of how competitive that is: 17 or 18 applicants are competing for each spot.

Yes, but still MUCH better than what I have to go through if I don't get admitted anywhere in US - in IIT it's ~75 applicants for every one admit. And that is supposed to be my safety.....

You've only backed out the ED admissions. What about ED rejections, does anyone have that figure? Or were all the rest of the 2,039 ED applicants deferred?

It seems princeton rejects a very little (no more than, say, 5 or 10% of the applicants). Then there are withdrawals, late applications and blahblah..... we're just trying to get an idea and the calculations ppl are doing here are fine imo

Assuming last year's 68% overall yield rate holds, there will be roughly 1,725 total admits to fill a class of 1175-1180.

There were 593 ED admits, and an estimated 585 of these will enroll.

This leaves roughly 590 slots to be filled from the RD/ED-deferred pool.

There are roughly 14,500 in this RD/ED-deferred pool.

Assuming last year's RD yield rate of 52%, there will be 1,140 admitted from the RD/ED-deferred pool.

Thus - again based on last year's overall and RD yield rates - 7.9% of the RD/ED-deferred pool will be admitted for the Class of 2009.

And for Princeton ED'rs I would (conservatively) triple that number Prettyfish. Princeton is still very concerned about yield (as are its peers). ED'rs are slam dunks for them in that regard. They are very very aware of that.

I hope that's the case. We'll find out soon enough, no? :)

ugh nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo all of the colleges i'm applying to have record numbers..... its looking like tulane here I come
:( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
that reflects my mood at the present time

I think Mr. B's numbers need some altering. His math always puts non H schools in the least favorable light (surprise!). Starting with yield. He chooses a number (last years) which he knows is a five year low. He would have certainly chosen an average if it happened to be a 5 yr. high (maybe he does this subconsciously - I don't know). But somebody needs to correct the rest of his math. I've lost patience.
