In my defense, I could tell you an entirely different--and equally interesting--tidbit of the chat, but I'll resist the temptation. What have you got to say now, eh, Philip?

Tebro, to drop to a lower prose: you're the bomb.

I like numbers. I like byerly's numbers. I would expect that Princeton's yield this year will drop, as will the yield rates at just about every other USNews top 25 school. While applications at many of these institutions have gone up from 5-17%, I would guess that the pool of unique applicants has remained relatively flat...with maybe a 1-2% gain. Also, as a stated goal in admissions, Princeton will attempt to accept more HYSM cross-admits, who, historically, have not been a very high-yield group. Meh, either way, I was afraid to apply to HYSM, and will probably be rejected by Princeton. What good is my opinion?

I say: Viva la bam! okay, not really 'cause i hate that show, but still...sugar cookies, anyone? munches on e-cookies

i would like some e-cookies phil =D
::takes cookie:: thanks!
::munches:: good!

yes i think byerly is also a good source of information/statistics. he should write a College Statistics Almanac =D

I like being a bomb! Yay!

In the words of my younger sister--"I go kapow!"

I just baked some molasses-ginger cookies (soft and chewy) with caramel drizzles on top. I'm ignoring the pots and pans, so it's all good. phil dear, gimme a sugar cookie and I'll toss one of mine over to you!

and kebree--phil and I are like...siamese twins, separated at birth and transported across a great big place called the Midwest.

lalalala...crayfish and creme brulee and creamy butterscotch candies and crumple and crunchy peanut-butter snacks and crustaceans!

Princeton's yield rate won't "drop", and I doubt yield rate will drop at many elites. Why? Because they are all, increasingly, engaging in "yield-protecting" measures.

Virtually every Ivy where the size of the early pool comes close to permitting it, is filling half the class either EA or ED, and expecting a yield rate approaching 100% for this half of the class.

As for the other half, I see an increasing trend to jump the admit rate for the EA/ED deferreds, who are, by definition, predisposed to accept. Then, there is an increasing tendency to "go light" on RD admits, filling in a bigger fraction from the waitlist where - once again - we have a sub-group with a virtually 100% yield. Finally, the Likely letter" device is being utilized to "feel out" as many key targets as possible. If one "likely" says yes, that is is two less people that have to be admitted to fill the spot.

Finally, all schools use "strategic admissions" to a greater or lesser extent - favoring people that they think - for a range of reasons - will be likely to accept if admitted.

i hate george bush.

i think ilcapo eloquently yet concisely summarized the college admissions experience for all of us with those beautiful words....it's stuff like this that proves that magic really DOES exit....bravo, ilcapo.....bravo

:)

slicmlic...stop trying so hard.

bump...............

"But in the Neighborhood of Make Believe, anything's possible" (Phil, page 5)

Mr. Roger's Neighborhood?

Wow we're starting to cite cc haha

Yeah, I noticed this after I posted it, and I cringed. It's because of the all the IB papers I have to write! You know it's bad when I start to use MLA In-Text Citation on CC...

Mr. Roger's Neighborhood?/quote since our page numbers are off (right now, this is near the top of page 6 for me), I decided to use universal post numbers. So don't freak out or anything! freaks out

Anyways, Suburbian wins! Woohoo! bestows life points

lol, now we're citing AND pretending that cc is a video game? (that's what your life points reminded me of... don't know if the reference was intentional)

=D ill be the main character of the video game. the cc world revolves around me....woot woot =D

old school zelda, anyone? i could definitely imagine the translation from CC to vid game in that respect. fuzzy graphics, limited movement, primitive weapons, and hypnotic music...ah, those were the days.

yeah, with flame-wars, likely letters, post-counts, and more....:)

I think we've just hit a new high...low...critical point (ahh calculus is everywhere) :p
