Princeton Review 11 Practice tests...

Are they easier or harder than real thing. Also are they worth practicing and spending lots of time on?

Math = OK, not great
CR = Weird, ambiguous, BAD
Writing = Good.

What book is considered to have the best math preparation?

Grubers.
o_o

Grubers is for students who have never studied math.

I agree. But then again, if you're taking upper level math, it would seem that way. Remember: most people don't have the benefit of a good math education, or are just simply not good at math.

@ ZorroX99 I'd say Barron's is the best for math prep. It really gets you thinking "outside of the box". Although I'd reccomend that you take a look at McGraw Hill's SAT I book as well.

I think PR tests helped my mid 600 CR score go to 750+. The questions are def. tougher than the real thing, but at least it'll prepare you.

Yeah the reason I'm asking about PR is because I've taken every blue book test and all the Barrons exams. I scored above 2000 in October and I need a little more practice before the Final Sat in December.

I scored above 700 in CR and Writing I just need to work on Math because I scored on the lower end of the 600 range.

To improve Math should I just do every problem in the Barrons book? Or should I take a multitude of PR Exams, or should I get a tutor. What do you guys recommend?

Thanks for the advice.

I'd say PR is better representative of real SAT questions than Barron's -- Barron's is more like Math Competition stuff, heh.

I would definitely use the PR book to practice math. The questions are good, more like the real SAT than Barron's for sure.

arachnotron: PR 11 is bad on the CR? it's the section i need most help with.

Yeah, it is, srrinath. The passages are good, it's just the questions are nothing like the real thing. If you want to do well in CR, do the Kaplan workbook. It helped me get 70 points. The Barron's workbook is good, too.

Princeton Review's reading sections are completely over the top in difficulty.

I consistently scored around 720-750 with PR... got my SAT back, what do you know.

Math is alright, but I would venture to say their math sections are just a wee bit harder than the real thing also.

Yes, PR is definitely harder in CR. They ask really specific questions that you wouldn't know unless you really read the passage carefully.

in that case, using mowmow721's example, shouldn't PR 11 be good? Because, although it might not give you an accurate score prediction or have the same level of questions as the real thing, it does hone your CR by setting the bar higher so that a student who practices up to (like mowmow says) a mid 700s range can get an 800?

as for concerns about test familarity, i will use it to accompany the blue book. So, in that way I won't miss out on gauging what type of questions there are on the real thing.

Meh, it's better to practice on similar stuff, rather than stuff that's insanely easy/hard. But if it's all you have, then by all means, use it.
