I bought the PR book for AP World. The test in in 3 weeks, I plan on reading the entire book thoroughly and trying to memorize as much as possible. We used Bentley Traditions and Encounters as our class textbook but I don’t want to even touch Bentley because it’s so dense and I don’t have time to look through all that stuff. Even though I took the class, I have terrible long-term memory so just assume that I forgot 90% of the details and things that I learned. If I just study Princeton Review really well, is that going to be enough, or do I need to know some details from Bentley as well?
Suggest adding at least one, preferably two other prep books instead. Crash Course has a nice thematic section, which is a big part of the AP and 5 steps to a 5 has a great era review. Last years version in the library will be fine. Those two + PR were enough to help my D get to a 5 (and her school didn’t offer AP WH, just a general World Civ class). Focus on themes and learning how to do the questions (eg, DBQ).
@collegemom3717 Thanks for the reply, I actually bought 5 steps to a 5 but heard that it wasn’t as good as PR so I bought PR afterwards. I’ll still use 5steps to a 5 for more general summaries. Only thing I’m worried about is that I only have a little more than 2 weeks to study, and I’ve barely touched any review material yet.
For our gang (and between them our Ds took APs in something like 15 subjects, and except for 1 4 in Environmental Science and another in Latin they were all 5s) a mix of books worked best- different elements helped different Ds with different parts of revising. They are all just tools.
As for time? well, now you get to practice self discipline! Two suggestions:
-
Lay out the material you need to cover and divide it across the days / time periods you have to study in. Make sure to schedule at least 2 full, timed practice tests. Make a timetable with deadlines: Era X finished by Day Y. Be realistic.
Put the timetable up where you will definitely see it multiple times a day. As you finish a unit/section, cross it off. -
I strongly suggest a tool such as StayFocused

(I’m sure you know of others)
for the next 2 weeks- and no cheating! Say to yourself over & over: it’s just for x days. Use the clock feature so that it is active during your study periods.
Good luck
You don’t need anything its a simple exam.
:)) with the lowest percentage of 4’s and 5’s of all the AP exams.
Another vote for supplementing PR with 5 Steps to a 5.
@collegemom3717 thanks again, I really want to do well I’m actually taking AP Environmental Science this year as well, but comparing the two review books, I think World History is going to be a lot tougher.
@skieurope lowest percent because many people take it who should’t be in AP classes. And if you paid attention in class and remember facts you will be fine. It is not overtly complex or applicable like chemistry or calculus. I only took 2 AP classes last year AP Bio and AP World I spent 99% of my time reviewing bio and got a 5 in world.
