Princeton review math question please help?

In a sequence of numbers the first term is 6. Each successive term following the fiirst is calculated by adding 2 to the previous term and then dividing by -1. What is the value of the 101st term substracted from the 70th term?

answer seems to be -14..again how?

. Three identical cubes, each with edges of length 8, are to be cut into a total of 384 identical rectangular of length 4, If the with and height of each solid are integers, what is the surface area of each solid.

says 18 but how????

If t is 120 percent of p and p is 50 percent of r, what is r in terms of t?

Answer is 5t/3
how?

Guys I really hope you can take some of your time to elaborate on these questions. It would be wonderfully helpful.. they have been bugging me for quite some time now
Thank you :)

don’t have time to do the other ones but the last one is a quickie!

so set it up as t=1.2p ,and p=.5r from this you can get r=2p
then move it over to the other side, since you know that r=2p, you have to make the 1.2p in the first equation (t=1.2p) equal to 2p, and you do this by multiplying (2/1.2) to each side, so it will be (2/1.2)t= 1.2p(2/1.2), the 1.2 on the right side cancels out and you’re left with (2/1.2)t=2p, and as 2p=r, you know that (2/1.2)t=r
so you have 2t/1.2 and if you make the fraction into having a whole number denominator, it comes out to 5t/3

hope you understand now!

The second one:
8^3(3) is the volume of 3 cubes. So divide that answer by 384 to get volume of each rectangle. You’ll get 4 making height and width 1 so do surface areas: 2(41)+2(11)+2(4*1)=18

since the other 2 were answered, the 1st one is pretty basic

1st term is 6, 2nd term is (6+2)/-1 or -8, 3rd term is (-8+2)/-1 or 6, as you can see there’s a pattern, 6,-8,6,-8,6,-8,6,-8

since 6 are odds and -8 are evens

101st term = 6
70th term = -8

the value of the 101st term (6) subtracted by the 70th term (-8)
is -8 - 6 = -14

2

Make the total area of all the rectangles equal the total area of all the squares, and work from there.

384(4wh) = (8^3) * 3
1536wh = 1536
wh = 1, and since both w and h are integers, w and h both must be 1 to make wh = 1 work.
With w = 1, h = 1, and l = 4, you can find the total surface area of one of the rectangles to be 18.

3

t = 1.2p
p = .5r
First, make 1r equal to p in some way.
r = 2p (by multiplying both numbers by 2 in .5r=p, you get this)
In what way does 2p equal t? You can use a ratio or proportion, if you want.
1.2/1 (1.2 being p’s, 1 being t’s) = 2/x.
1.2x = 2, x = 2/1.2. So, (2/1.2)*t = r, or 2t/1.2 = r, or 5t/3 = r.
