I have a question...in the Princeton Review best 361 or whatever colleges, they said that Princeton's average GPA was around 3.8. This seems low to me...do they like factor it weird or reverse weight it to make people think that they can get in and thus should apply so as to get their admissions rate lower, and thus ranking higher? (woah, horrible run-on) Or have I just been brainwashed by CC into thinking that a 3.8 is in fact average for an ivy league school?

well, there are a number of people who have big hooks (athletes, etc...) with lower GPA's, thus lowering the average GPA. the 3.8 probably includes unweighted GPA's as well

If you take a look at this phenomenon called senioritis, I'd guess that GPA on average drops a full tenth between end of junior year and end of senior year. I have friends whose semester GPAs have gone from 4.0 to 3.0 over the course of this year. :p

GPA is relative from school to school... in highly competitive private schools, a 3.8 is actually not as easy to get as in a public school where only 1/3 of the students go on to a 4 year-college.. but through test scores, EC's, college essays, etc, even these applicants with "low GPA's" (less than 3.8) can still receive admission from Princeton University...

Also, UW GPA is not always a determinant of academic success... a person can get a 4.0 Unweighted in all non-Honors classes & fluff courses. (probably with hopes that his/her 4.0 will make up for lack of challenge...)

Also as age136 wrote.. there are the athletes.

since when did a 3.8 gpa become a bad thing?

I can tell you that there are a lot of people from N.E. prep schools that will be going there without a 4.0.

3.75 any chance to get in with a 3.75?

gpa alone says nothing, vijay.

well i hope my 4.0 gets me somewhere...but im also working on making sure my ecs are right...i've got time though..ill be a sophomore come august.....i want princeton sooooooo bad..since i was like....8

At first, I thought you said the college gpa was a "3.8" ... then I reread and you meant HS average. Hhmm.. seems about right. I only know 4.0s that got in, though.

Average GPA uw at my kid's high school that was admitted to Princeton is a 3.6
