Princeton Review vs Barron's 36

I'm taking the ACT in June. I have the red book, but I want to save it for later. What other review books would you guys recommend? I'm thinking about purchasing Princeton Review or Barron's 36.

I’ve heard the real act textbook guide is the best but between the two you speak of people say the Princeton Review is better. there are more books here! http://www.happyschoolsblog.com/best-act-prep-books/

Before you spend your money, did you check your local or school library? My daughter went through Princeton Review, Barron, Kaplan, Peterson Guide, etc all free from library.

My local library literally has no test prep books. I looked when I first started preparing for the ACT.

I used my brother’s old copy of Barron’s 36. It was probably not the best one to start with. I think it is geared for people who already have a 30 and want to score higher. It had a lot of good tips in it though. I just wish I had used the Kaplan book first to familiarize myself with the test and gone on to the Barron’s 36 afterwards for “fine tuning”. The Barron’s 36 book does give a good review of all of the really difficult math topics.

I have not used the Princeton Review materials, but they are on my “wish list” because they are definitely recommended by a lot of people.

Did you try your school also?
Anyway, the Barron’s 36 is probably not the best to start with as you said. It is less than half the size of others and has very limited practice sections. For the practice tests, I think Kaplan is on the easy side while the Gruber’s (forgot if it is SAT one or ACT one) has question types different from the real test. Princeton review would be a good choice, however, getting any book available to practice would be a good idea. We are so blessed that the local library has all the major ones with multiple copies and editions. My daughter went through all the practice tests on those books.
