Princeton SCEA Class of 2020 Applicant Thread

@NervousKid7 Congratulations on your successful interview! My suspicion was based on Post #182, where the poster noted that his son’s interviewer knew about his stats before the interview (and through looking at many older threads). I never said that knowledge of stats beforehand signifies a likelihood of acceptance, nor did I say that an absence of prior knowledge signifies a deferral; it’s just that, based on observation of many older threads, those who had interviewers who knew about stats were more likely to get in. It’s just a pattern I saw, but all in all, its just a pattern, so perhaps it’s just a coincidence that has no real basis in fact.

Agree with interviews not having a whole lot of weight - that’s why I didn’t really sweat it. My interviewer even left saying “remember, I have no influence on whether you get in or not.”
He talked a lot of his experiences and also the current situation with students wanting to remove Wilson’s name. The beginning made me nervous since he asked so much about my interests; I would answer and talk about one and he’d say “okay, what else?” three or four times in all.
Now that’s done with… Mid December come quicker!!

@SmartAlec Based on what I’ve heard, your decision will be posted on the application portal that you created when you applied. You’ll get an email that says “your portal has been updated” or something, but the decision won’t actually be on the email. Not really sure about this though; Princeton could throw a curveball!

Oh, and yeah, just as a future reference for any of my posts: I try my best to answer all the questions on the thread to the best of my ability. However, I receive most of what I know through information on old threads, research, or just educated guesswork. I don’t have connections with any admissions officers, nor do I actually know what is going on in the admissions office right now; in reality, I’m just as unsure as you guys are! In the end, I’m just a Princeton SCEA 2020 applicant just like all you guys. We’re all in this together!

This brings me to a rather unique question that I thought up just to promote some discussion. I know that some of you guys can’t wait until decisions come out (I’m on that boat as well). So, if you were given the opportunity to see everything going on in the admissions office right now (i.e. the two people reading your application in the preliminary round and what they write down, what the admissions officers say about your application during the committee meeting, which admissions officers vote against accepting you, etc.), would you do so?

Personally, I would rather wait. There are some things that are just better off as a secret. I know that if I were to be accepted, such an experience would be quite relieving, but if not… well, actually knowing the specific reason why I was denied wouldn’t really be the greatest experience… :stuck_out_tongue:

@azwu331 The 2012 SCEA decision was on Tuesday Dec 18th. You login to your account~ if you see a silhouette of an orange tiger you’re in. Good luck everyone!

@Dragonflygarden Ahh… good point. However, that date was such a long time ago. Who knows what will happen this year… it’s all guesswork.

@azwu331 I absolutely would check! Lets me know whether or not I should stress about other applications…

@azwu331 I personally would love to see what is happening–though I also totally understand the inclination to just wait and see. I don’t know; I’ve always just been super interested in how the decisions are actually made. Also I would be curious to learn what aspects of my application were deemed to be a “fit” for Princeton and what aspects weren’t deemed a “fit” lol

@azwu331 I’d personally want to see everything they’re doing. I’m frightfully impatient and curious X_X As for if/when I get deferred, I’d like to know why so I can work on that area for my RD apps, if possible.

Personally, I’m glad we have a couple more weeks to wait since my extended essay is due in 10 days. Essay-writing and emotional instability from an admissions decision don’t mix.

@ALibertarian omg are you a full IB student too? Glad to meet you, we’re such a rare species here xD btw my extended essay is also due in 10 days ;___; and all the IAs…

On what basis were people in previous posts saying that there were only “16 days left” or something? Is that a guess, or has it been confirmed somehow?

@meaa7130 Oh, I never thought about it that way! Now, upon thinking about it, watching the admissions officers might not actually be that bad. The only thing I fear is if my application is tossed out because of something out of my control. If that happens, that might seriously diminish my expectations of myself and impair my essays to other schools. Sometimes, a little bit of hopefulness isn’t that bad.

In addition, there are some things that are quite awkward to know. Imagine how it would feel if you knew that one of freshman professors voted to reject you in the committee! That would be quite an uncomfortable situation! :stuck_out_tongue:

Speaking of rare species… is anyone here applying through QuestBridge? Usually there are some lurking around the threads, but I’ve never seen one on this thread before. I know that QuestBridge announces decisions this Tuesday, so it must be a really stressful week for those people.

@SmartAlec It’s just an educated guess. Princeton hasn’t actually released its release date yet, but hopefully they will do so in the next few weeks. It’s pretty hard to wait!

Hi guys, just wanted to say good luck to all… this wait is honestly so long! Hopefully like what @azwu331 said we can all get accepted in December… that would be awesome!

Good luck! Just did my interview - it was a casual conversation and learned a lot from the guy who is a prof. now at Uvic. It was a 4 hour trip to get to his university but worthwhile. Hope that everyone gets in!

IB student too here - finished my EE a week ago and now the IAs :frowning:

My best advice is to keep yourself occupied&tired so that you don’t really get a chance to think about this.

I’m not an athlete but I just got a likely letter!!! The letter made it sound like it would be at most 2 weeks from today when all decisions come out.
