Princeton SCEA Class of 2020 Applicant Thread

@lonelyowl I got that same email too today. Although I really wish it was a good sign, I honestly think everyone with missing tax returns receives that email. The email I got was identical word for word, so I believe that the message was just computer generated. :frowning:

@azwu331 hahaha poooppp… tbh I legit want to drown myself in my own blood… I wish I experienced this before hand so I could’ve wrote a personal essay about it haha

I didn’t get that email. I hope it’s not a bad sign, I gave my life for this application [-O< I’m from Latin America, could that be the reason they’re not asking for those documents right away? We have totally different certificates to prove financial status over here.

I also got that same email

@lonelyowl and @azwu331 I got that too! Dang, I was hoping it was a good sign. :frowning:

Does the admission office review financial aid after acceptance?

@lingading97 Yes, to estimate the financial aid packages.

@andreschile Don’t worry; the email was regarding American tax forms, so I think that you’re good.

@lonelyowl @VanillaBean22 @meaa7130 Haha, what if the email was actually a good sign, and we all received it because we all made it past the preliminary round… :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh my goodness that would be awesome!!! Well fingers crossed for now :stuck_out_tongue:

@lonelyowl @VanillaBean22 @meaa7130 I kinda searched around in last years posts, and some say that there’s a “strong correlation” between the people who get the email and those that get accepted, so LET’S HOPE

@azwu331 so if they review financial aid only after a applicant has been accepted wouldn’t that mean everyone who received this email got in?

@lonelyowl I looked too, but apparently that correlation is only for RD since the deferred pile still gets another chance during the regular round.

@lingading97 The admissions officers do review financial aid after acceptance, but I think this was just a computer-automated message notifiying us that we have missing documents. I don’t know though. :confused:

Lordttt… I also got that e-mail. I really do hope this is some sort of sign.

@azwu331 @lonelyowl they have no reason to look at financial aid for deferred applicants since they haven’t gotten in.

@azwu331

the readers comment on your activities, extracirriculars, and LORs. they will also critique your essays and an write overall summary on how they think you will contribute to the campus community/take adv. of resources at princeton. the readers also rate you on likelihood of admission, I think that this influences whether or not you get passed over to committee. the scale goes:

unlikely->only if room->potential->strong->high priority.

if you’re interested, I got rated potential.

@memelover LORs were extensively quoted and used in the reader’s overall evaluation. seems that they take them seriously. They noted how one of the recs I sent in was “average”, while another one was “a rave”. they also use recs to see if they are consistent with your essays. for example, I talked about how a program I did “shattered the boundaries of my mind”, and the readers made particular note that this description was consistent with what my recommender wrote about my performance in the program.

also re finaical aid email: a had a bunch of friends who got it last year and they got denied. can confirm it means nothing. sorry to disappoint :confused:

@lingading97 Yes, but are two important factors here. First, all of the emails were sent at the same time with the same message, so it is really likely that it was computer generated. Second, Princeton has just started its committee round, so no one has really been accepted yet (although this could mean that we all made it through the preliminary round, but this is just speculation). Third, Princeton would still need the financial aid information for deferred students for the regular season. The only way that we could be more sure of this assumption is if we run into a SCEA applicant with missing forms who did not receive the email, but that doesn’t really indicate much either.

By the way, did you receive the email?

@lomoso, interesting revelations from the FERPA request - especially that you were rated “potential.”

Can I ask if you applied SCEA or regular? If SCEA, were you admitted or deferred?

Thanks.

@lomoso Thank you for the information! Would you mind if you gave us a bit of your stats? Also, on a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate your essays?
