Princeton SCEA Hopefuls 2018

I am a parent now and don’t even remember if there was EA or ED for Princeton when I applied, but I applied early, and then regular decision to H and Y, Johns Hopkins and a safety (today, btw, that school is nowhere even close to a safety). I was deferred early by Princeton and do remember thinking “oh great, now I can’t relax and it’s back to the grind to keep all those A’s through spring.” I was tired of holding my breath. Somehow I did it. In April, I was accepted by Princeton, waitlisted at H and Y, accepted by JH but without enough aid to attend, and had a full ride to my safety - a school which, by the way, I was fully prepared to love and attend by April, until the RD acceptance shocked my socks off.

The numbers are very different today, but I remember being deferred. It sucks, but it’s not the end of the line. If anything, it’s an opportunity to look around at lots of different places and invite you to open your eyes. Princeton’s a great place, but outside of keeping in touch with my classmates with Christmas cards, no one else I know in real life went there, and they’re all just fine with kids of their own applying to college - and most of my friends who went to Princeton, even the double legacies? Their kids are not automatically going to Princeton, but to a huge variety of other fantastic schools.

And no, my senior son is not going to Princeton! Didn’t even apply. He applied ED to another school, and I couldn’t be more proud.

Good luck to all of you guys, but you won’t really need it. If you’re applying to Princeton you are already stars, and you will all find your own constellation this spring, and I promise you guys, you will thrive.

Accepted ahhhhhh

ONLY BY GOD’S GRACE- PRINCETON CLASS OF 2018!!! Literally so thankful right now

A very kind post ChicagoMama! Our talented and beautiful in every way daughter was deferred and she and I appreciate your post!

Accepted!! So happy right now!!!

Yeehaw! I’m in!

@ChicagoMama: thank you so much!

wow my heart actually broke in two when i saw the deferral…

Not to be a conspiracy theorist or anything but did anyone else realize how it seems like (at least in my own experience with facebook friends and on the results thread) that pretty much everyone form NJ got deferred?

Could it maybe be that since the competition in NJ for Princeton is understandably immense that Princeton is deliberately waiting to see what NJ brings this year?

Then again I could totally be making up some BS to make myself feel better about my deferral.

BUT, Congrats to all those that got in!

Accepted! Can’t wait to meet all of you!!

For all those accepted-- did any of you fully submit the Princeton Financial Aid application thing and have it still say that your financial aid application is incomplete in your acceptance letter? Do we have to wait for the FAFSA/2013 tax returns to come out to get our package?

Deferred.

My ego isn’t bruised, but I’m realizing how bad I actually want to go to Princeton. I’m a little surprised. It’s been very emotional.

Joining the ranks of the deferred here. I’m so annoyed. Getting deferred defeats the purpose of applying early! But at least I’m still in the running.
Congrats to all who did get in!

Edit:
It seems that Princeton had a really hard time making up its mind: Less than 2% of SCEA applicants were rejected!
http://dailyprincetonian.com/news/2013/12/714-students-or-18-5-percent-offered-early-admission-in-third-year-of-u-s-early-action-program/

My decision was deferred as well. I was a little annoyed at first before I realized that 80% of the SCEA applicant pool is in the same boat as me. Does anyone know if Princeton will know whether we applied early or not when the admission committee rereads our applications in Feb./Mar.?

[714 students, or 18.5 percent, offered early admission in third year of U.?s early action program - The Daily Princetonian](http://dailyprincetonian.com/news/2013/12/714-students-or-18-5-percent-offered-early-admission-in-third-year-of-u-s-early-action-program/)
“In addition to those admitted in the third year of the University’s single-choice early action program, 3,042 students were deferred to the regular decision pool for re-evaluation, 12 students withdrew their applications and 49 were denied admission.”
what

Still in shock over my acceptance. Is there like a fb group for Pton Class of 2018?

I think I’ll call up the admissions office this weekend and ask them why I didn’t get accepted. Then, I’ll ask what more I can do to increase my chances of admission come the regular decision round.
I’m already planning on sending them a few additional items to enhance my application.

Does anybody know around what percent of deferred students get accepted? Do we have any more of a chance than those who apply regular?

I’m shocked at my acceptance. Truly.

**That’s an incredibly terrible idea **Mocean. You’ll get on their radar for sure! But not for good reasons.
