Princeton SCEA Hopefuls 2018

AAAH accepted! And for whomever said nj had it hard, we may have had it harder, but besides myself I know about 12 nj kids who got in, so it couldn’t have been that bad

Really? I thought it’s reasonable to know what to improve. No?

Very happy about my acceptance. To those deferred, I am hearing that almost 3000 candidates were deferred to the regular pool as apparently Princeton got 4000 applicants and accepted 781, very few people got rejected!! This may not be true but a deferred friend of mine gave me this info.

First post here…been lurking for a while. Deferred with strong stats ! I think SCEA is really meaningless if they are deferring everyone, might as well tried out in RD with stronger essays ! Unless you are urm, legacy, athlete or have some incredible “hook”, stay away. Well…the good news is …I am applying RD to a ton of other schools that I feel might actually be a better fit for me. Congrats to those who got in, for those who didn’t, I honestly feel there are better options out there. @ChicagoMama - thanks for your post

It is unclear to me why P-ton would defer so many in SCEA round? Did they simply satisfy athletic recruits, URM, and other hooks. Were applicants without those criteria given full consideration or did they run out of time due to common app glitches, etc.
Will this huge group of deferrals have reasonable shot in RD? Do they do this every year?
I read that rejection rate last year was in the 7+%(300rejects approx) range and this year down to 1%(49 rejected).
Any thoughts?

I guess they just want to make sure they will be getting the best of the best. While the deferral is disappointing, the admissions committee is actually giving those deferred the benefit of the doubt by not denying them in the SCEA round.

NJ represent!! Also accepted and from Jersey ! Is there an official Facebook page yet? This is still so unreal to me ! I seriously can’t believe I’m posting on CC as an accepted student after stalking CC for all this time!

How important is legacy here? I haven’t applied yet. My test scores are awful (1890), but I have a 4.0 unweighted, which I’m guessing everyone here has. Since my grandfather went there, and he was a phi beta kappa, would that help a lot? He doesn’t donate a lot, but I think he still does (he is 83 right now).

Deferred legacy here. Dad went to Pton grad school. 4.0 unweighted, 2090 SAT (CR:750, M:630, W:710). There’s something about timed math I just can’t handle…

Deferred with a 34 ACT and 4.0 GPA, but it’s al good. I thought I had a good shot, and it was my first choice, so now just to wait for RD. Maybe by deferring so many, this is just a way for them to get their acceptance rate lower to look better in the books?

^^ Deferring students doesn’t change the eventual acceptance rate at all.

I was deferred, and I have no clue what the deferral means since they deferred so many. At schools where a smaller percentage of people are deferred, you know that you must have been close. For PTon, I have no clue how close I was or how far I was from admittance…At this point I am just going to submit the rest of my apps and start dreaming about those schools instead. If I do get into Princeton, I will be ecstatic! However, I am not going to be very hopeful.

I was accepted through QuestBridge so I was one of the first 31 students admitted to Princeton’s class of 2018 on December 2nd!

To the deferred applicants: what is your RD college list looking like? What are your safeties?

^ Got into my safeties and a match early, so my RD list is really top-heavy with a lot of reach/ivy+ schools.

I’m already accepted to my safety as well. My RD list is 50% match schools and 50% reach schools. I’m only applying to two other ivies.

I have one safety, two matches, and a whole boatload of reaches. Just submitted my Harvard app and tomorrow I’ll submit William & Mary.

I’ve already submitted a ton a safety/targets. Princeton and Claremont McKenna are the only two reaches I’ve submitted my application to so far. I’m probably going to applying to another 3 or 4 reaches this week.

I got in, but I’m still going to submit my apps for UPenn Wharton and Pomona.

I’m getting the feeling that everyone who was not accepted SCEA was deferred. is this true?
