Princeton Senior Thesis

Does anyone know if Princeton's senior thesis is hard? I know that the average thesis is from 60 to 80 pages. Does this conflict with your senior classes and class work?

Nah it’s super easy.

Ditto with newb, its really easy. In fact, a friend of mine simply copied an thesis from the 1800s by hand. Only hard part was that he had to copy all 300 pages 4 times, which as you can imagine is very tiring on the hands. You know, the first 3 copies were done in a blue pen, and just for fun, the final copy was done with a gold glitter pen. I can’t tell you how cool it looks.

To actually answer the OP’s question: Yes, the senior thesis requires a significant time commitment and, if approached all at once, can lead to many a sleepless night. Remember, though, that as the thesis counts as a two semester course, you are only expected to complete six other courses your senior year, as opposed to the usual eight. Some people take four courses in the fall and two in the spring, as they figure most of their thesis work will be done second semester.

ivan’s answer isn’t entirely accurate: the thesis counts as two courses for BSEs (engineers), but does NOT count for course credits for ABs. (that is, it does not contribute to the 31 course requirement for ABs.) it’s for this reason that most people do at least one semester with 5 courses–that way, you’re only obligated to take 6 classes as a senior. most people do 4 classes in the fall and 2 in the spring because the bulk of the thesis gets completed in the spring, but there’s also a significant number of people who do 3/3. (worth noting also that: (1) you have to take at least 2 courses a semester, so 5/1 isn’t possible, and (2) you have to take at least 6 classes as a senior, so no 3/2 nonsense either)
