For the second year in a row two Princeton seniors have taken the top two spots in the Alice T. Schafer competition for undergraduate women in mathematics, widely considered the highest honor for female mathematicians at the undergraduate level.

“Ana Caraiani ['07] was named the winner of the prestigious prize at the Joint Mathematics Conference in New Orleans. Tamara Broderick '07 was a runner-up.”

Over the seventeen years of the competition, Princeton seniors have won the award or been the runner-up four times. Berkeley undergraduates have tied this record. Duke, Harvard and MIT come in just behind with three winners each.
