Princeton should do Likely Letters for non-athletes

Ok, just my opinion, but I think that Princeton should consider sending out likely letters to non-athletes, just as Yale and others are doing. There is a clear advantage to sending out these letters. Students who receive them may very well feel more appreciated by the sender, and therefore, that school may get the advantage over the school that sends the email acceptance in late March/early April.
I know there was some mention about Princeton possibly doing it next year when Early Decision was no longer an option, but whether you have an early program or not, it just seems like a great idea.

"yale and others": who's others?

Dartmouth.

harvard, stanford

are these "likely letters" that are sent out right now, for students who are at the top of the regular decision pool?? like who do these colleges send them out to?

"Likely letters?" Can someone please describe these? Like when do they come, who do they come to, if you don't get one, what does that mean, etc.?

Likely letters are promisary notes of admission that one, (athletes only at Pton), would recieve before the 3/29 reply date. If you get a likely letter, as long as you don't get arrested before April, you should expect to get a reall acceptance letter.

Some students have said that Yale actually called them first with the likely letter that followed about a week later. My understanding is that the letter basically tells you that based upon your credentials, you are likely to be admitted provided you keep up your grades (and as Silver12065 said don't get into any trouble).

well my question is, do they send the "likely letter" to all admitted students...? and so if you dont get one now, you are not going to be accepted? or are these "likely letters" only reserved for the top kids in the incoming RD class?

From what I gather, the letters are reserved for the students they believe are the tops in the RD pool. Still, I think it would be good for Princton to do.

So if you don't get one (at say Yale), your chances are wide open?

that's what it sounds like.

Ungst, I am surprised you haven't let it be known again that you want one. Let's get the petition going to urge Princeton to get you that likely letter.

ungst wants and indeed probably deserves a likely letter. Princeton should do the right thing and drop 39 cents on ungst. I support a petition for ungst. ungst looks good in orange!!! My S is tuned out, but I want a likely letter for him too! The wait continues.

I agree! I will contribute whatever is necessary for ungst to get his letter. He gets one first. Then Palmettoman's son and then my son!! Great idea.

Dear Princeton Admissions:
We the undersigned urge you to forward a likely letter to Sir ungst as quickly as possible. Ungst is an applicant with great passion for Princeton, highly qualified, and of good character. By sending this letter, you will not only likely obtain an highly competitive candidate, but Princeton's good will among applicants and parents of same, who support this petition, will increase tremendously.

For the above state reasons, we urge Princeton to consider our petition.

Indeed, I most admire the passion of ungst!! Give some love to ungst!!

........lol..........

P.S. If for some unforseen reason you, the admissions officers, choose to flagrantly ignore this strong recommendation, mutually unpleasant consequences and/or ramifications may arise. We the CC Princeton community loathe to use unconventional methods to achieve our goals; however, God forbid that we should be known as prudish. You have children, do you not?

f.scottie, we would be greatly honored if you would sign our petition.

as great as likely letters sound, think of how bad it would be if you KNEW that princeton sent out likely letters, and you didnt get one. i mean, it would be great to get one, but speaking from the perspective of someone who applied to 3 schools who send out likely letters and hasnt recieved one yet, not getting one is like another rejection- a real punch in the stomach. so i ironically find myself glad there are not princeton likely letters- my hope still remains intact (even if its hanging by a thread)
