Princeton, Stanford slipping; Harvard, Yale, Columbia rise to ever-greater prominence

^^^^Thank you!

Except for the [troubling?] fact that Stanford loses the cross-admit battle to Harvard (and Yale and Princeton)…and the numbers ain’t even close, particularly against H. In other words, most of those who to apply to Harvard and Stanford and are admitted to both Harvard and Stanford, attend Harvard.

Of course, that does not mean that all of those on The Farm are H rejects. Many decide that they don’t like Cambridge (or the East) and just don’t apply. Stanford is still ~35% Californians.

BB, to paraphrase one of my favorite posters, allow me to ask … SOURCE? And Yale and Princeton? Not quite and not always! While the “battle” with Yale varies from one season to another, the record between S and P is rather uniform in its disagreement with your statement.

For the record, most people who are admitted by Harvard do attend Harvard. Short of exceptional cases, do you happen to know a school that would beat Harvard in regular head-to-head battles, be it real or projected as in the revealed preference “studies.” Using Harvard as a yardstick for comparison for cross-admit battles is silly. Everyone takes it on the chin!

And, were you to look for a legitimate source (as opposed to the garbage poll in this forum) you might find this information instructive.

http://facultysenate.stanford.edu/2010_2011/minutes/10_07_10_SenD6388.pdf

I do not doubt you will recognize the information as it is the same that confirmed the annoying fact that Berkeley only enrolls about a dozen of its cross-admits with Stanford.

Considering the remarkable impact on regional enrollment, it is not that surprising that Stanford loses plenty of cross-admit battle with the rest of HYPS. With single digit admission rates, many competitive students do apply at multiple schools across the country, but maintain clear regional preferences. New England only represented only 4 percent of students at Stanford (for the year presented)

Rather off point xiggi, but I’m surprised that even a ~dozen choose to enroll in Cal over Stanford. I would have thought it to be much lower, i.e, one or two Regent’s scholars. (You must be confusing me with someone else since I don’t recall ever suggesting that Cal could even compete in a cross-admit battle with S.)

Of course. I just threw them in to get beyphy to do some serious critical thinking. :)

Dem’s fightin’ words in the NE. :D

BB, I did point a finger at you with the “source” request. Sounds familiar? Anyhow, I also assume that you had seen the discussions about cross-admits at Stanford, as it took several repetition to make people such as RML see the light and drop their usual claims about the similarities of the student bodies on both sides of the bay.

I would be surprised you missed those posts, but if you did, you now have a reasonable … source. :)

oh please guys…just take a look at this if u are interested at all in tha Cross admit battle…

Haha, Captain Obvious! Where do you think Mathacle got the information he used for his blog entry? Where do you think Mathacle got the idea to look at information shared by Dean Shaw? Should I quote myself?

sigh…its from the Stanford faculty senate…

now does it give the data more credibility??

btw im just posting this because someone above made an ungrounded claim about HYPS cross admit battle. Nothing against you or what u said xiggi
