Princeton Student to Answer Your Questions

what renovations are planned for dillon gym?...i have some great memories of that place :)

Thanks, ec1234.

Does anyone know anything about doing ROTC at Princeton?

the ROTC kids helped us move in this year. I know some people who did air force rotc, but since they had to commute to rutgers sometimes, it got to be too much, and I'm pretty sure that they both quit

hypothetical...if admitted....

if we're not recruited athletes, but we're pretty solid and indicated on our app we want to play, does admissions forward our application to coaching staff...or for that matter...even our name....or does admissions only let the coaches know which recruited athletes got in?

What's the reputation of Forbes and where would it rank in the hierarchy? Is is that far from central campus? What about Wilson?

Forbes isn't that far from central campus but it isn't exactly near either :p
The Main Inn is really nice, but people tell me that the addition and annex suck. We looked at the addition - it seemed kinda cramped. Forbes also has a really nice dining hall and amazing Sunday brunches if you like crowds.

Wilson has the best location on campus. Architecturally, it's only marginally better than Butler but I like living next to Frist :)

I heard that last years OA and International Orientation were on at the same time. Is the Int. Orientation worth going to?

Weeee. 900 posts

I would definitely suggest OA. It's a lot more fun and you don't really learn anything at Intl Pre-Or that you won't already know by the time classes start.

What's the football like? Do people go to games, how is the team?

The food is not actually bad (S has not lost any weight - he has not gained any either)....They have, meat, vegan and vegitaranian selection all the time. S is in the 20 meal plan. With cafeteria, late meals he averages about 16-18 meals/week. I think recently they also started a mexican food place at the frist.

So conventional wisdom, best to worst, would be something like

Rocky
Mathey (sic?)
Forbes
Wilson
Butler?

What's the deal with April hosting and ED kids? Are we allowed to go? I'm completely confused about this.

Euphrasie - unfortunately, ED kids are not invited to April hosting. However, while you can't stay overnight, if you wanted to come for the daytime activities and info sessions, no one will kick you out. Additionally, if you happen to know a student at Pton, you could just visit that person for the weekend.

Pyro - Rocky and Mathey are pretty interchangeable, although Holder, the best dorm in Rocky, was renovated in the last couple of years, and has an edge over Blair, the best dorm in Mathey. Rocky dining hall is also marginally more impressive, with higher ceilings and nicer lights. I may be biased, since I live in Mathey, but I still prefer Mathey dining hall because fewer people tend to go there, so it has a more familial atmosphere.

Living in the main part of Forbes is probably better than living in butler or wilson, but the Forbes addition is the worst housing on campus, since you are far away from everything, and don't get the compensations of your own bathroom and hotel-style accomodations.

Wilson and Butler are also fairly equal. I don't quite understand why Butler gets all the insults when Wilson is just as ugly. However, the people I know in Butler and Wilson are rather attached to their barracks style dorms, proving that wherever you wind up, you will probably grow fond of it.

And don't forget that Butler offers Bloomberg Hall to frosh and sophs - singles, air conditioning, bamboo hardwood flooring.....

Butler gets the insults cuz it's as ugly inside as it is outside (with the exception of Bloomberg.) Wilson is nicer inside.

Are freshman quads typically two doubles... what are some common room layouts for those?

Also, how is the food for you? Frist, Wu, Forbes.... how has it been?

Yes quads are typically two doubles and a common room.

While I like to complain long and frequently about the food, it isn't that bad considering that it's college. Vegetarians shouldn't really have too many problems and while all the food isn't amazingly healthy, you should always be able to find some healthy options. I can't say a whole lot for the variety but it isn't completely lacking, I suppose. Usually all the dining halls have the same menu - the Forbes kitchen seems to be marginally better than the others. I usually eat in Wilcox (Wilcox and Wu share a kitchen) I haven't eaten that often in the Rocky/Mathey dining halls.
I usually prefer to get late male at Frist because the food is better and there's a lot more variety but it's kind of a rip-off. I had a lot of Frist points at the beginning of the semester which I've already spent :(
