I need some help on what to do to get me into princeton. I'm a sophmore and looking at these forums it likes I'm behind. What should I for community sertvice? how do I win awards? what should my gpa be? I need a lot of advice. please help.

be superlative in everything. and then some.

no joke. GPA should be over 4.0 (if weighted) or between 3.8-4.0 for unweighted. SAT's should, obviously be as high as you can, probably above 1450+ to have a decent (around 10% chance) of getting in. of course u can always opt for ED, but i think they might get rid of that by the time you go to college. Community service is a given. everyone does it. but it is important to have some. if wont put you in the lead in the slightest manner, but it will just make u "mediocre" (since everyone applying is pretty smart, mediocre is used as a compliment). then u gotta find a passion. what is your passion? then invest time and win a couple awards, then BAM! you're chances of getting in goes up 2%! YEAH! ... 30% for ED get in, around 8% for RD. average is around 10%. good luck.

I don't know what you have to do to get yourself into princeton. I don't know what I had to have done. If anyone knows, that person is wanted by tens of thousands of high school students.

You're a sophomore, so even if you're "behind," you still have some time.

You should do for community service what interests you. (I know that's not the answer you want to hear, but it is the truth.) You can join a community service organization in an area you're intersted in (hospital, arts center, whatever), but you could also create an organization of your own in something you're really passionate about. You're the one who has to decide! If you really want to show initiative, I would suggest you start up something of your own. Before doing that, make sure that you're doing it because you want to, not because it will look good on your application. It will make the difference your truly enjoying the activity and your feeling like this whole community service thing is a chore. That being said, I volunteered at the nursing home and at the hospital. Don't do it because you think it will look good; I don't think it will. I think those two are very common activities, and I only did it because that is my true interest.

Your gpa should be as high as you possibly can without: a. "grade-grubbing" (a term that I don't like, but I had to use it) b. driving yourself insane c. not having time for having friends and being with your family, pursuing other interests, and all that good stuff

Really, I didn't think about what my college application/resume would look like until spring of my junior year. Before that, I just did what I liked doing. Then junior year and senior year, I continued doing everything I had been doing since pretty much middle school, and I got leadership positions in what I was really devoted to throughout high school. I don't know that the outcome will for me in April. Inevitably, there will be some rejection letters and some acceptance letters. If I get into a top school, such as Princeton, you will know that you don't have to market yourself or make yourself be any type of person to get acceptance. I hope that one can just follow one's own intersts and get into colleges.
