Princeton: Students who do not identify their race

I posted this question in this thread: <a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/1228264-race-college-admission-faq-discussion-9-a.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/1228264-race-college-admission-faq-discussion-9-a.html</a>
But no one responded to my question. I'm still curious, so I'll ask here:

What is the national percentage of students who do not specify race in their college application? I figure this should be easily Google-able, but I was unsuccessful in my attempts.

I was looking at HYP stats: Harvard has 11% unspecified, Yale has 9%, and Princeton has 3%. I would imagine these three schools to have very similar applicant pools, so I wonder if Princeton views unspecified race negatively when admitting students.

Opinions?

That would be rather foolish don’t you think? What purpose would it serve Princeton? I think it’s a statistical anomaly or a mistake, frankly.

Well not completely foolish - I have a feeling that the majority of those who don’t specify their race are either Asian or white. It doesn’t seem terribly unlikely that a college seeking to balance its class ethnically would look negatively on someone who doesn’t specify their ethnicity.

I prefer not to identify my religion or my ethnicity. However, just from my town I’m sure they can tell my ethnicity pretty quickly!

Really? Wow, that’s interesting. I don’t really understand that, lexieam, but maybe because our community is so multi-racial.

My town is 95% - 97% white … it’s actually a little strange!

Whoa. You’re definitely not from California. :-)
