Princeton Summer Sessions. Is applying a waist of $ ?

Would applying be a waist of time and money or do I actually have a minuscule chance of acceptance for the summer school program? (btw, i posted this same thign in another discussion board as well, i forget which one though)

Soo.... be honest...?

They have academic summer sessions at Princeton for high school students? I knew Princeton had sports camps...

Yes they do. I friend of mine took courses there last summer

Now, i'm glad i've informed you of something you didn't know before, but could someone please answer to my original post?

you definitely have a chance, College Summer Prgms are not as selective as actual admission, anyone with like above a B- avg has a damn good chance, but may I recommend the Brown Summer Prgm. It was unbelievable, you have no rules what so ever, it really is like going to college. I dont remember the actual website, but the program is officialy called summer@brown.

Harvard also has a pretty good summer program, which I attended last summer. I had no idea Princeton has summer courses for High School students...Do you have any web link or phone number I could have to get in touch with the proper person/office to look into that?

lol.. u spelled "waste" wrong

so all in all, I do have a slight chance? oh and one more question, do i have to submit PSAT or SAT scores?

dude, i guess i dont know exactly for pton, but these summer prgms are usually not selective at all, one of my friends got 920 on her SATs, and she was at the brown prgm with me. I didnt have to send in anything for brown except teacher recs and a transcript.

Yea they're usually not that selective, they just want your money. And it doesn't help with college acceptance. Going is great, but don't go for that reason.

Does it help with college acceptance at other colleges? I want to go to Berkeley for instance. So, like any other college they're looking for students who are ready to take on college level work, wouldn't going to one of these schools for the summer and doing well in the classes clearly demonstrate how ready you are and therefor help with your acceptance?

Yea but someone who works a job in the summer or volunteers or travels to another country...all those things look good too so I don't think it would give you a clear advantage (especially since there are so many people doing these summer college things now)

I did the summer session at Stanford, not the college, but the discovery institutes one, and I recall students got into both programs with average SAT scores and grades. It's not very competitive to get in. Hope that helps! I'd say apply and give it a shot. :)

also, i dont think the level of work you do there is college level. At brown I had no homework for four weeks, it was unbelievable. I was also only taking one class, which is all you can do there. I dont think it helps or anything, I recommend doing it simply because its a lot of fun.

I think it depends on the type of program you apply for... I think at Harvard and Yale you do college level classes unless you choose to do the college prep program, which case it's probably not going to be as difficult. And also, I think even if you're a high school student you have to take a minimum of 8 units (to classes) or something like that.

wow i had no idea that princeton had a program. does anyone know where i can find information on it? also, i went to the university of chicago last summer, and while the application proccess wasnt too competitive, i do think the level of work was pretty difficult... id often work well into the night (or the morning) trying to finish up all my reading, writing, research ect. so if your looking for a college level program you might want to check out u chicago (its also a little cheaper than the programs at the ivy leagues... those are so expensive!)

What a funny thread. People are commenting on someone's chance of getting into an imaginary program based on generalizations.

Firstly, you'd have no idea how selective Princeton's supposed "program" is unless you know more about it - it could be only for two students in the entire world for all we know.

Secondly, Princeton doesn't have a summer program.

Princeton has one summer program only for local kids. There are a couple other programs that stay on campus but are not in any other way affiliated with the program.

I think you can definately go to any summer program you want to granted you have the money. I think that's really all most of them want.

princeton does have a program. and i dont know how the heck this old thread got dug up after nearly 2 years of being dead! haha. One of my friends spent her summer at princeton. She did it through JSA i believe.

i did it a couple summers ago through the local ballet studio's summer program, and NY film academy has a program there...
