Good luck to all of you guys! You’ve worked so hard to get all the way here; know that, regardless of the decision, you’ll be successful no matter where you go! If you get accepted, congratulations! If you get deferred or rejected, know that this decision has nothing to do with your self-worth. Find comfort in the fact that Princeton’s admissions process is subjective, and that you’re not alone; many bright, young kids are turned away at this institution every year. Think positively! Perhaps the closing of this one door may lead to the opening of many other doors in the future, doors that you would’ve never known had existed had it not been for this decision.

I really don’t know how they were, since they might have written my letter in flowery language, but I talk very little in class but do well on projects/essays. Also, my English teacher seemed very bent on writing down my extracurriculars and accomplishments (when I asked for a rec, he asked a lot about them) rather than my interests.

General Comments: For future reference, I did get a financial aid e-mail around Dec 3, did not get a financial aid confirmation, and am unsure whether Pton asked my guidance counselor for first quarter grades.

Also: a ton of people at my school, all equally deserving of a spot, were deferred from their early schools. I know one guy who is probably the brightest guy I’ve ever met (he always contributes to class discussion in significant ways, he’s hella funny, he has great test scores, and he’s a URM) who was deferred by his early decision school. Similarly, I’ve gotten to know a lot of brilliant and incredible people from the 2020 SCEA discussion thread who’ve been deferred. So, as it’s been said again and again and again, even by my interviewer, admissions really is a crapshoot. I’ve noticed that people deferred from SCEA tend to 1) get into Pton RD, against seemingly massive odds 2) get into another great school in the end, or 3) end up somewhere they’re having the time of their lives at. And of course, as a final note, a college can never define your value as a person. You will do great things, no matter where you go.

[] Volunteer/Community service: Just a small amount of what I do: promote health education through volunteering at disease walks, work at the nursing home nearby, help with kids learning to read, etc.
[] Summer Activities: Visited Europe last summer for a family trip and learned so much. I also did the National Youth Leadership Forum in Medicine for 9 days which was fantastic. I also visited some colleges with my dad.
[] Essays: Common App (10/10) I think I did really well on it. It was a unique format and I think it showed the admissions board a more personal side of me. Princeton Supplement (8/10) It was alright. I don’t think it was bad, but my Common App essay was definitely a lot better.
[] Teacher Recommendations: I didn’t technically choose two science teachers, but one teacher’s course could be considered science so I might have messed up there. I didn’t read until after I applied that they recommend recommendations from two different subjects.
[] Counselor Rec: Honestly not sure. I don’t do anything wrong and my grades have been good, so I don’t think it would be bad.

[li] Interview: Mine went so well! The guy was really nice and we chatted for at least 45 minutes. I think I did really well; I was professional, but everything seemed to flow really, really well. [/li][/ul]

[] Strengths: I think my essay, my GPA, and my recommendations were probably some of the strongest parts of my application. Also, I think my interview went really well, but he could have said otherwise.
[] Weaknesses: My test scores weren’t the greatest. They weren’t bad, but I think I could have done better.
[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: My test scores. I think I didn’t quite stack up to the other early action applicants, but I’m hoping I might fare better in regular decision.

General Comments: I might need to email them about my additional drama thing that I’m doing, and I think once they get my mid-year report they might accept me. I don’t think I could do any better on my SAT unfortunately and so I’m hoping my other characteristics help me more.
