wait so was the recording supposed to be an album?? or is it ok that did a song
@chr1717 I put a song too. Should be fine.
Since they intentionally asked for the vaguest thing–“favorite recording”–I’m sure that they don’t really care what format you submit. Song, album, speech would all be viewed similarly. It is the content of that item that they are interested in in order to learn more about you.
@university2022
I suppose that isnt an unfair assessment. I havent checked out the finances for all of my school – and i’m no expert – but I know that schools like UM Ann Arbor give a fair amount of financial aid. I think, in the end, it really depends on if you are out of state, how much state funding the school gets, and how much money your family makes. Obviously, if your family makes $10,000 dollars a year and you won the Nobel Prize, you will be paid to go to pretty much any university. But if you are an average applicant, and your family is lower middle class+ you will probably get progressively little financial aid.
Going to small liberal arts schools can be quite expensive, as you said. Additionally, they dont really provide you with much in the way of research opportunities and their names usually arent very well known. But, as you can see, I still applied because I find large state schools detestable.
@18YearsASlav Agreed. And also agreed about the large state schools. Heres to hoping we’ll meet next year at Princeton.
@mediokra I just recently finished my RD supplements so holiday break won’t be a nightmare if I’m rejected/deferred. Like you, I won’t apply anywhere else in the unlikely outcome that I’m lucky enough to get in.
What did you guys put for your favorite keepsake or momento? I was stumped by that one for a good few weeks.
@appletree456789 i wrote a scrapbook I had made of my favorite memories last year
Well, mine is kind of sad… I said that my favorite one is a bottle of my deceased grandma’s perfume. It truly is my most sacred keepsake. I wrote my Common App essay about my grandma’s death, so, from a strategic POV, I thought choosing that as my memento would make my application cohesive as well. But I did mainly choose it because it’s one thing I hold extremely dear.
@orgooo That sounds like such a great answer because it encompasses lots of things you liked rather than an object representing a singular experience.
@mediokra That is really beautiful.
I wrote about the Sanrio key chain my best friend (who’s half Japanese and who spent her childhood in Japan) brought back for me from her most recent trip to Tokyo. I wanted to express how much that friendship means to me.
I put down a book a travel book from the 1930s that inspired my interest in the Orient. I also found that question rather bothersome.
@appletree456789 thank you! I love yours too.
I thought it was a pretty cool question. It could/would tell admissions something that we really hold close and provide a picture into what we truly value.
@mediokra Same! I was stumped by it at first but in the end I’m really glad it was one of the questions.
What’d you guys say for favorite quote?
“That’s just like, your opinion, man”- The Big Lebowski
I had said in a different thread that my quote was from my favorite book as a kid. “A person’s a person no matter how small.” - Horton Hears a Who!
What about you, @appletree456789 ?
@mediokra “But there are many fine things which we cannot say if we have to shout.”
-Henry David Thoreau, Walden
@mediokra I love that!
@woolfie I like that!
