The admissions committee has completed its early action deliberations and has deferred a decision on your application until the spring. Your application will be reconsidered in February and March with the entire applicant pool.
We received more than 5,000 early applications, which included many more qualified candidates than we could admit. The committee recognized your record of achievement and appreciated the time, care, and effort you put into your application.
Often, a deferral means that the committee would like to see your senior year academic performance. Please be sure the Mid-Year Report is sent to us as soon as your mid-year grades are available. If you would like us to review additional information, please send it to our office by the end of January.
We realize this defer decision is disappointing news, especially since Princeton may have been your first choice. We look forward to evaluating your application again in the context of the whole pool.

For all of us deferred, this doesn’t actually mean the end of the road. A deferral to the regular pool just means that you would be considered competitive in the RD pool. but they simply do not know how you’d stack up. Obviously not all >70% of deferrals will get in, but for a small percentage, there is still hope as they would be at the top of the RD pool. Good luck to everyone again and lets all take a break!
