Princeton vs. Caltech vs. Carnegie Mellon for CS

I got my letter from all these today and I got in! However, I am having a hard time deciding which one to pick. I have visited them all and I could see myself going to any of these but I want to know which one usually has the most successful graduates because I am torn apart. I know Caltech has many research opportunities and a small student body and that appeals to me but it is also Nerdville, USA so I cannot decide.

CMU is the most esteemed school in Computer Science but Princeton is the best overall so it depends on how important having a Computer Science “culture” pervading the student body is to you. I would eliminate Caltech since it sounds like you wouldn’t fit in.

Boy or girl?

The sex ratio is still pretty out of whack at Caltech. Will that matter to you?

How set on CS are you? If there is a chance you will change your mind, go to Princeton.

I am a boy… I really am set on programming and the sex ratio doesn’t matter to me. I actually thought I fitted in fine at Caltech but I also met a lot of people who played varsity sports in high school. I like the small student body there too. With CMU, I didn’t really like the city but I like the students and the campus. With Princeton I like the campus and the students but I’m not sure the CS department is as good as the others.

USNWR ranks Princeton’s graduate CS program #8 in the country (ahead of Caltech at #11).
Have a look at this profile of the Princeton CS “Undergraduate Department Representative”:

You can safely choose based on personal fit or net cost without worrying about which one usually has the most successful graduates. You got into 3 great schools, so congratulations. Much of the rest depends on you.

Where did you go? @rgcslover101‌
