Could someone please help me? I'm literally torn. I WANT to fall in love with Princeton because of its awesome FA package, but my heart belongs to Stanford...

What are your areas of academic and professional interest?

If you like Stanford better, go there.

Definitely humanities. Right now I’m looking at English majors, but I’m thinking about Political Science and East Asian Studies. Might do Economics. And one day I’m hoping to get into law school…

I’m scared silly of Princeton’s grade deflation…

If you will have to take on a lot of debt to go to Stanford, and Princeton’s FA is truly awesome, you should go to Princeton. If you want to go to law school, you should avoid debt for undergrad. If you really can’t afford Stanford without serious debt, perhaps you should try to negotiate your FA using Princeton’s offer.

I agree with sunshower212. If you’re thinking about grad school, go with Princeton. If not, go to Stanford.

Help me choose?

try your best to negotiate with Stanford, because your heart belongs to Stanford. At least, Princeton is not a bad choice. Good job.

The opposite is true. Usually you will have certain RA or TA at graduate schools. Stanford has grade inflation, you will have better grades, and hence better chance to go to grad school. Besides, Stanford has co-term programs, you can apply to MS degrees after junior year, and finish BS and MS in five years. Try to talk to Stanford to see what they can give to you.

That issue tends to correct itself by the end of orientation. The vast majority of students love where they end up, and they’re two excellent options.

After all, if you couldn’t see yourself at Princeton, why would you apply in the first place?

Support this claim empirically or retract it.

OP, I had this choice to make. PM if you want to talk about it more.

scratch this.

Thanks.

It is worth noting that Stanford has been in dialogue with Princeton about the possible adoption of grade deflation at Stanford. :p

Don’t do that for the next two years, please!!
On one of my son’s classes last quarter, he got B+ while he could not do anything on the final exam. He still has 3.9 at this point, but I see the train is coming.

I hope it goes well for your son!

Ask Stanford to match Princeton’s offer.

Don’t worry about grade deflation, its not nearly as big of a deal as people make it out to be. Princeton and Stanford are both awesome, I think your decision should come down to FA/preference for a big/small school/location. That being said, I’m going to vote for PRINCETON :D

Yeah, literally send the financial aid offer you got from Princeton and send it to Stanford. If they want you they’ll match their offer

nice choice

I would go to Princeton, but if your heart is with Stanford, you must follow your heart

talk to the Stanford people about matching the Princeton financial aid

note: I had the same choice, went to Princeton then straight to Stanford for an MBA

Matching is out of the question. I just feel like the competition at Princeton is going to be too much. And the whole ‘really gated community’ vibe will be stifling, if that makes sense.

milly, if you are already feeling like you are not a match to compete against other Princeton students, then you shouldn’t go to Princeton. However, I see no reason why the Stanford students would not be up to the same caliber level in competition compared to Princeton.

and what do you mean by this “really gated community” stuff?
