Could anyone comment on the quality of theater at Princeton? I've searched around but have found very little information (which might not be a good sign). I'm up in the air between Brown, Princeton and Tufts/NEC (but probably leaning away from this given my strong interest in theater, and that it might be cut short with the conservatory program).

When we were looking we found Princeton to be not as strong as some others. (son decided hee didn't want the BFA conservatory programs). We found much stronger theater programs at Brown and Tufts (and Yale too) Son is happily matriculated at Brown and doing TONS of theater-singing, acting and dancing!

What specifically didn't he like about it? I think overall (student body, open curriculum, etc...) I like Brown best, but musically, academically, and campus-wise I liked Princeton. I'm having a real tough time with my decision, so any input would be helpful.

The only thing I know about Princeton is that they have a very famous and historic acting group called The Triangle Club. They perform quite extensively and are well-known. You can find info about them here:

Good luck with your decision.

It is not that he didn't like it, it's just that after touring and visiting Brown, he felt it to be a better fit for HIM. He spoke to people in the theater and music department, and since he didn't know exactly what he wanted to do, he liked the open curriculum of Brown allowing him to explore alot of different options (he has taken psych, sociology, economics, cognitive linguisitics and alot of other courses in just the 3 semesters he has been there-all somehow relating it to his theater interests. This semester he is taking a course on the neuroscience of theater and how our brains react to it). He liked the theater opportunities there-lots of acapella groups, lots of different theater opportunities from writing your own (he is currently writing his own musical with the hopes of it being accepted and performed by his first semester senior year), to performing in existing shows, faculty shows, operas etc etc. He is directing a show now which will be performed this weekend, he has been a musical director on shows, choreographed, arranged and performed himself in the short time he has been there. I am sure he would have found opportunities at Princeton too, but he just liked Brown better-as he put it when we left " I feel like I am at home here". Yale also had alot of theater and he liked that school too but he liked Providence better than New Haven. You will get a great education at both places, just choose what makes you happier-what feels like a better fit.Good luck and if you need any further help, ask away.
