How do you tell people that you are attending Princeton without sounding pretentious?

At a New Years Eve party (also here in Chicago), when asked, my daughter said she went to school in New Jersey.
“Why do you do that?”
“Well, it’s a good school.”
End of conversation.

You can just say you went Princeton. It does not sound pretentious at all.

Haha I wonder the same thing. But some people are like “oh, is that a good school?” “Where is it?” and when you say “Princeton, NJ” they go “Oh. Nice.” There’s really not much you can do except not bring it up in conversation unless asked.
