Principal Nomination = Appointment

Hello all,

so as of today (Jan 7) my application is complete and I am 3 qualified. I have not recieved the letter stating that I am triple qualified, but I passed the DODMERB with no problems and my CFA is more than qualifying. I believe I am scholastically qualified as I was deemed scholastically qualified by USNA and when I had my interview I was told so. So once 3 q'd with a principal nomination, how long will it be untill the appointment is offered? I understand it would be a couple weeks for the processing etc., but does USMA wait untill March and May to award these appointments or do they send them out as they come?

Thanks :)

If they are like the other academies, they send out a few in november/december and send the rest in Spring. So if you don't get it right away, don't worry since a lot of people on here received there's in the spring even though they were extremely competitive.

Actually, West Point has a rolling admissions, so they will not wait. They have admissions meetings I believe weekly (Thursdays?) so you will not be waiting that long if everything is in order.

Champs06: Your file only goes before the board for evaluation once it is complete. If you are found to be triple qualified and you have a principal nomination, your appointment will be processed immediately. It is those who are on competitive nomination lists that have to wait for all files on their list to be complete before they hear anything. The majority of offers are given out by April 15th, but appointments from the National Waiting List can stretch the process out until just before R-Day for a few candidates.

this is good news, i am glad to hear it, thank you Ann matt and az

oh, another question i would like to ask if any of you out there would know and be kind to share: does the admissions commitee go through all the completed applications with a nomination when they meet? or would mine take a couple meetings to get to? thanks

The initial file evaluation is done by your Regional Commander (RC) and he takes your file to the board once your file is complete to get you academicaly qualified (assuming you have passed the CFA and are mediclaly qualified). For many candidates this is done before nominations are even received. Once a principal nomination is received, they will pull the file of the principal nominee and check to see if the candidate is qualified. You can contact your RC to see what your evaluation timeline may be and make sure that your file is now complete.
