Well, the late James Irwin's (former astronaut) mother walked him right up to the gates of USNA and told the Marine on duty on the gate to take care of her boy. He turned out well, I think.

How does one find out if he/she is a principal nominee.
[/quote]

You can ask....but most MOC's will not offer that information...

truth be told, you may never know....

Our senator's staff member told my daughter over the phone that she was the senator's principal nominee. The senator's official letter of nomination also stated that she was named principal nominee. I would imagine that MOC staffers routinely offer this information. It's a special distinction that should be communicated to the candidates.

An even more specific question:

Does anyone know the statistic of those with double noms, triple qualified that DON'T get in?

I know its like 500 out of 2000 triple qualified nominated applicants don't get in...

Arg too much time to think about stuff like this! I just want my letter so bad!

You are going to give yourself an upset stomach trying to come up with the statistics.

I know you want your packet; you've worked so hard. I know this sounds trite, but try to focus on something different everyday besides the post office. Honestly, the day I wasn't hawking the mail-box, it came. In fact, they put it by the door and I almost tripped on it when we came home that night.

Have you spoken with your BGO?

I agree with CelticMom, NurseyPoo and MomofHopefull2011. :) Another example is when a child is overseas on holiday and needs info. Some of you guys are way too serious sometimes. Lighten up I say! Enjoy life! Let your hair down. Get a tattoo or something. :)

And I am way behind on the posts to the thread.. Please forgive.

Since I am done having children, I don't have to worry about one stretching, just sagging.

Is there a tatoo that looks better as you sag?

Nursey darling.. they will crucify us if we bring up that subject again. Even in jest! But I am still looking at the Big Butterfly across my back. Rainbow tones.

Okay, okay. I'll bury it, as I'm laughing my butt off (lots to laugh off, there) and whiping the hot tea off of my computer screen after it sprayed a bit on there laughing at your comment before last!

You think I'm funny? OMG! That was a hoot! :D :D :D

nurseypoos
you mention James Irwin...I am at my daughter's home in Nashotah Wisconsin and St. John's Military Academy is right next door. That's where J. Irwin went to high school. It was eerie to drive around the campus yesterday and see all the uniformed students and all the things they do. It's really a military academy and all I could think of was that why on earth would anyone want to do this for high school AND college? But clearly our USNA astronaut was a great Navy hero and I salute his years of discipline and training. But it was interesting that you mention his name as I was also thinking about him this week

I have always had a lot of respect for him and his public announcement of his faith. Not easy to do in a very scientific world.

Additionally, he had nothing but praise for his wife. Wow.

Peskemom Small world...My mother was a Nurse at St. Johns in the late Forty's, and have a cousin of my father's that taught History there in the 70's... it has a honored past. An then there is Natshota......many a visiting priest came to our very small parish from Nashota House, the parish was under the auspice of Nashota House as it was young and growing and could not afford a permanent priest at the time.

But why would you possible want to visit in the dead of winter...much better in the summer. Kiddo's spent every summer June to August with grandparents not more than 15 miles away.

Well for one thing I was in grandma withdrawal pains...having last seen my only grandchild in July....and secondarliy I LOVE winters, having grown up in NY...I was telling my daughter yesterday that I should be the kind of person that lives in so.CA all year except for 3 months of winter, where I can live in REAL snow for a short time and then head back to warm San Diego county.

My son-in-law is in his 2nd year at Nashotah Seminary by the way.

Nurseypoo-

My original BGO got changed to be my regional BGO director... I've met him once for an interview where he was horribly discouraging... I worked on all of the negatives that he told me and improved all of them.

Since that interview I've emailed him twice, and gotten one response. I recently asked him about my scholastic qual letter, but that was two weeks ago and no response. He's a very high level lawyer for a company, and is most likely way too busy to deal with me, and I understand that.

So pretty much, I'm in the dark.

Call USNA. My son had/has the same problem with his ALO for USAFA. He is worthless. Not saying your BGO is and he may be pretty busy, but he shouldn't have signed on for something he doesn't have time for.

Call USNA and address this issue. Tell them he's not returning your e-mails, etc. Ask them if you can switch BGO's. I know for a fact they will let you switch at USAFA (your ALO). But, since my son got his first choice, he doesn't care. What makes him mad is that this guy is letting other kids down, too.

r0tcOd...

don't count yourself out before the game has even started...

if this is your dream, if this is what you really, really want, don't let anyone, or anything, stop you from achieving it. This is but a momentary bump in the road... there will be lots more of them.

Patience. Perseverance. Determination. Motivation. Desire. Challenge.
Let these be your guides.

Most likely your BGO is busy- with his practice, with his new responsibilities. Perhaps he feels you need to develop the relationship with the new BGO assigned to your area. There can be lots of reasons for a "no response."

Stay positive, and keep moving forward.

r0tc0d

My Plebe had no relationship with his B&G. They talked one time on the phone to set up the interview. Had the interview in a Starbucks. Waited weeks to see it posted. Emailed about a waiver question, never received a reply. Emailed him when received appointment...got a Congrats. And saw him to present his appointment at awards. That was it.

B&G all have a different approach. Don't be hard on him just try to understand that what you are looking for or even expected is not this man's style. Stay positive and hopefully for you, in the end it will not have mattered.

Our BGO didn't have much contact with my boy, either. However, every time Nick called him with a question, he was quite prompt.

r0tc0d's BGO has frightening similarities to our son's USAFA ALO. He is there to provide a service. Although his style may be different, he's there to help. Or should be.

My BGO is awesome. I contacted him for the first time last March or so and we met for awhile and had several phone conversations between then and NASS. After NASS we discussed the whole thing and strategy-type deal for the fall. After every big milestone I called him (DoDMERB, invites for Noms, Nom interviews, Noms, Loa, etc) and he would congratulate me and we would talk for awhile. He was really prompt with putting in our interview, which was short and fast because he had gotten to know me so well by then.
Now with Spring break coming up and I have my appointment in hand he's planning on me getting together with two youngsters from the academy (on eof which is a good friend) and him and talking about Plebe Summer and all the inside aspects that they could give me.
My BGO is great. I'm really excited that I have him, he helped me through the whole process.
